Members talon Posted June 13, 2013 Members Report Posted June 13, 2013 I'm thinking about offering two layer leather belts as an option to my customers (along with a few other side projects). I would like to be able to handle two layers of 7-8 oz leather. What would you suggest? Thanks! Quote
Members Itch Posted June 13, 2013 Members Report Posted June 13, 2013 We run 441 clones in our shop. One is an Artisan 3000 ? The other is a Sewpro which runs a bit faster that we use for belts..Both are very capable machines and will sew about 3/4 of an inch of leather.. Moderator Wizcrafts Posted June 16, 2013 Moderator Report Posted June 16, 2013 It depends on what size thread you want to use to secure your 1/4 inch thick belts. If you don't need to exceed #138 thread, a normal industrial walking foot machine, like a Consew 206RB-5 will do. Slow it down with a 2.25" motor pulley, or get a servo motor. You'll want to get some #23 leather point needles for the job. Members talon Posted June 17, 2013 Author Members Report Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks for the input! Right now I'm leaning towards the Cobra Class 4, however I just made a big equipment purchase so it will be a while before I'm ready to make the jump. Quote
Members Gump Posted June 28, 2013 Members Report Posted June 28, 2013 An old 132 k 6 will handle #346 thread and will stitch 7/16" stitches. This might be a cheaper alternative to a new machine if you are only doing flat seams as in belts. I have one that I use for sheaths of two layers of 8-9 oz with a welt of 12 oz, beautiful stitches. An old powerhouse of a machine. Gump. Quote
