Okay, I know its a brand/designer, status thing, but I still cant help but think, what the!!! I listed a handmade bag for $160 and got nothing. I did however sell it locally for 160, so no biggie. I am going to try an experiment. Let me know if anyone has already tried this. I am going to make a clean simple shiny bag and list on ebay for $4300. If no one buys oh well, it was an experiment. If it sells, well, woohooo! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=012 Its pre-owned!

What are the advantages and disadvantages to marketing leather goods through eBay? Is anyone having success using eBay as a primary marketing strategy? Do you use it to draw attention to another website, or sell product directly online? I've heard of romances from eBay and fortunes made from garages & attics on eBay, but I want to know if eBay is useful for a custom leatherworker, and in what ways. Thanks for any insight you can share. Johanna

If you are running a successful leatherworking business, what advice do you have for people who are struggling? We have been brainstorming about ways to increase the average income of leatherworkers, and your observations and experiences can help others. If you are not earning the income you would like to have, what issues are holding you back? If you don't depend on leatherwork for a living, what obstacles do you face trying to break even? What would assist leatherworkers in general to earn a better price for their products? Johanna

I made up that "Teasers" section using 60 pictures that just caught my eye from different websites. More than 500 people have viewed the teasers. The number one viewed pic is Rayne's, number two is Phil Broc's girlfriend, and the third is BadAssSeats by Shirley. What does this tell us? Boobies. Boobies sell. Ain't no shame in it, if that's what the customer wants. There are pretty pin up girls from the 40s and 50s all over the internet to get patterns from. Most are sexy and discreet, like the famous Ken Griffen backside nude. (She graces the back of Little Jon's portfolio, and clinched many a sale!) If you sell to bikers, truckers, any men who like beautiful …

(In the interet of full discloser: I am not affilated with Joe, I did buy this CD from him as well as my first Boss. But not shilling for him, I do stand to gain anything by this.) Joe's CDROM Book Artisans and Money is very instructive for folks trying to strike out on their own. One thing that really struct home with me was how one goes about marketing their goods: Don't act like a store is doing you a big favor by offering to sell your hard built goods on consignment.Either your stuff is worth paying for, or it's not. Verticle integration is the way to go (Cuts out the middle man) sell direct to your customers by directing them to your website, or store. If you do …

If you have a business, take out the time to fill out your profile, including an avatar and picture. You will find all your set up options in "MY CONTROLS". List your business name. You may want to use your business name or real name when posting, for easy recognition. Put your website link in your profile, signature -or both- and you are all encouraged to shamelessly brag. Post pictures so that you can back up what you say! Also, drop me a note if you want your business featured on the other side of this site (under construction) which will connect interested customers to leatherworkers who accept work. No, you're not going to sell your leatherwork to the people t…
