Lot of work to make this presentable. Mostly due to my naiveté and newbie status but once again, learned a lot. Maybe I'll send him an upgrade every year as I get better. Thanks for looking

Friday night I finished this banjo strap for my baby brother, Dale. I told him I would make him a leather doodad of his choosing for his 50th birthday. It took him a couple of years but he finally decided on a strap for his banjo and one for his guitar. This strap is made from bison hide and is covered in ostrich leg skin that I painted. The trim is deer hide and I carved all the buttons out of the antlers off a little 6-point buck I killed with my longbow last November. Everything was sewn by hand using artificial sinew. I can hardly wait to get a picture of him with his banjo and new strap.Darren

First time anyone asked to get Bead Work put on an instrument strap. I like figuring out how to do new techniques. This bead work was provided by the customer, I glued and sewed it to a piece of pigskin, then used that as an inlay in the strap. I didn't like the idea of just gluing and sewing it to the top of the strap, not sure if there is a better way to do this, but I think it is an interesting look on instrument straps. Chief

This group from April runs the gammut, Dobro, Guitar, Banjo and Mandolin straps. The ones with the buckles are squareneck dobro (buckles are almost always used and there is a reason for it, with the dobro they never get near the instrument), ones with snap hooks are banjo, ones with loop and no buckle are mandolin, Guitar straps are self explanatory. This is a guitar strap I just finished. I used Wickett and Craig 6 oz veg tan calf skin with a 6 oz latigo backing. This was also the first piece I've ever antiqued. Overall I like the antique but it will definitely take a little practice. The customer loved it so that's the most important part but I would appreciate any feedback you guys care to give.
