Forgot to ask, did you stitch up the bag first or do the carving first?

Thank you Jim. I carved it first and then stitched it. But to be practical, it doesn't matter so much on this bag as the tooling is on the flap only and you could still tool it. The only problem would be that the leather wouldn't lay flat.

You can follow the instructions for the diplomat pouch in Stohlman's book on how to make cases. It's pretty much the same bag I just added the tooling.
