  1. I've had leather (Mostly Tandy) have spots that would not dye, even dip dying a time or 2. I am thinking tanning process was not complete. If you are like me, I usually make one project, ruin it somehow, and make a second one. The originals are in a box I call the Island of Misfit Holsters.
  2. A flea market guy sold me all this hardware this morning for $15. Only wanted the D and O rings. I guess I am caught up on ugly buckles, D and O rings till the end of time. Wondering what the items in the last picture are for?
  3. Similar question. Brother in law has a firewood carrier, synthetic eth web handles. Wants it remade with leather. Making it out of chrome tan, gonna contact cement and stich carry straps with 138. Do I need to add rivets too? Figure it will carry 50 to 60 lbs firewood.
  4. Where I live I would likely have to pay the utility $100,000 to get three phase to do projects give away.
  5. Interesting but my machine has a single phase motor. I have single phase shop power and some 3 phase shop machines (lathe, mill, welder) running on converters. I would convert all these to single phase if not so expensive. I got a free 10 hp 3 phase compressor and swapped motors to single phase to dodge the converter hassle.
  6. I was in Harbor Freight today and they had a $17 router speed control. Thought I would try this out. Plugged in the sewing machine, set the speed control to full speed, and turned on the machine. Blew the 8 amp glass fuse in the speed control before the machine turned over. I replaced the fuse and tried it on a small drill press, and it did okay, but would not run full speed on direct. Cant imagine it doing much with a 1 1/2HP router, but ill try that tomorrow. The clutch motor has a wing nut rod which limits clutch travel. I reset it and I can pretty much sew one to two stitches at a time.
  7. The motor was new on the machine when I got it. Might have 20 hours on it.
  8. Thanks for the ideas. I considered a VFD for some 3 phase machine shop items I have. Built rotary converters for 2, one came with a static converter box. I was always scared of VFDs because so many have problems with them. The clutch is not smooth at all - grabs all at once. It takes off fast, then slows.
  9. It has the smallest motor pulley as well.
  10. Hello, I have a Consew 225 with a clutch motor. Too fast for my use for leather. Built a belt and pulley speed reducer, approximately 3 to 1 ratio. Helps but not where I need to be. Lengthened the arm on the clutch motor linkage and getting close. I wondered about an electric speed reducer like you use to plug a router or other power tools into. Anybody ever tried one of these? I built a speed control with a light dimmer switch yesterday. Worked a while but at some point the motor kicked out and I was able to get it going again. Did not expect this to work but wanted to try. Not enough power (600 watts maybe). Would try a router speed control if it would be safer for the motor. I know about servo motors, but really don't need to spend that much right now as I pretty much give all my work away. Thanks.

  12. Sorry. It is a 3 1/2 to 4 inch blade. Needs to choke up on the handle about 1/2 I suppose.
  13. Anybody got a pattern for a paddle style sheath for a 5 inch hunting knife?
  14. I made several a while back both ways. People thought they were cool, gave a few away, nobody bought any. I still enjoy making them, especially for lever guns.
