  1. A friend asked me to make him a right hand cross draw holster for his 4 5/8 inch Ruger Vaquero. I showed him this left hand cross draw holster I made for myself and he liked it. He wants it a less extreme cant (this one is probably 30 degrees), right hand, 2 inches shorter, in brown. I was going to use English Bridle dye. The fun part is the Civil War medallion. A long dead relative of his bought a mule right after the Civil War with this bridle. It had these US medallions om the blinders of the bridle. He got one, his brother the other side. The relative worked the mule for 30 years after the war. He wants this medallion on the front of the holster, and it will be his daily carry. The medallion has 3 prongs to easily cut in and bend over. However, I need to protect the gun. I have used pigskin for linings and it may be too thin to hold up to the wear with these prongs underneath. The gun is stainless so wear is less noticeable than a blued revolver. Also the pigskin seems to lock the gun like velcro and makes it really hard to draw. Could use some thin leather and double wall the holster but I am limited on thickness my sewing machine will sew. Ideas please on handling the medallion deal.
  2. Thank you.
  3. I have an opportunity to buy a Singer 251.;I need a walking foot machine. I will pursue it if it is. Is a Singer 251 a walking foot machine? Simple question.
  4. Singer 251 a walking foot?
  5. Where are you located in Tennessee? I live in Molino, not Molina.
  6. Most of those shows and movies use 1892 and 1894 Winchester’s, which were developed in those years. Sometimes they take the forearms off and pretend they are Henrys. The movie Joe Kidd has bolt actions with scopes, a Broomhandle Mauser, and an 1895 Winchester.
  7. I sew that weight with a Consew 225, which is the same class, does so with difficulty and a speed reducer. Would not do well without reducer.
  8. I have a very worn and loose Consew 225 that I have added a belt and pulley speed reduction and pedal linkage to slow it down almost manageable. A friend passed away who had a Juki LU 562. Very pristine, been adjusted, looks brand new, has reverse which I am sure is a nice option. Juki now for sale. The Consew is inside a building with a lot of other benches that would make it very difficult to swap table and all, and also the Consew table has the speed reduction. Can I do a direct swap to the Consew table with the Juki head, and save all the table swap? Don’t use it much but the Consew requires an hour fiddling to sew 10 minutes.
  9. Nice. Hard to make a 1911 look bad.
  10. Harbor Freight has some small hydraulic presses. Find them a lot used in yard sales and Facebook Marketplace. I have been known to weld one up.
  11. I've had leather (Mostly Tandy) have spots that would not dye, even dip dying a time or 2. I am thinking tanning process was not complete. If you are like me, I usually make one project, ruin it somehow, and make a second one. The originals are in a box I call the Island of Misfit Holsters.
  12. A flea market guy sold me all this hardware this morning for $15. Only wanted the D and O rings. I guess I am caught up on ugly buckles, D and O rings till the end of time. Wondering what the items in the last picture are for?
  13. Similar question. Brother in law has a firewood carrier, synthetic eth web handles. Wants it remade with leather. Making it out of chrome tan, gonna contact cement and stich carry straps with 138. Do I need to add rivets too? Figure it will carry 50 to 60 lbs firewood.
  14. Where I live I would likely have to pay the utility $100,000 to get three phase to do projects give away.
