I use a strap cutter for my slings/belts. Sometimes I have to put some support for the hide on the open end of the cutting machine to support the rest of the hide from making it turn (one way or the other). I have a "L" shaped table that I move around to do this it surrounds the deck and back of the machine so I can feed the leather in smoothly. Sometimes I will split my hide into 3rds before making belts instead of splitting in half. I can send photos if needed. Andy PS what brand cutter? Are the blades and spacers tightened down on the shaft? Blades touching the roller?

UPDATE! The shears have a GREAT new home, the larger Randall Strap cutter has a SUPERB new home. Two items that need adopting: 1: Randall 10" strap cutter, set for 1" on a motorized table (I can palletize both OR separate). 2: Clicker, home 220V, works AWESOME, I need to get a smaller clicker for my holster work, I would consider swaps of a smaller clicker of some sort, whatcha got??? Email me if needed, andy@shottist.com Thanks! Andy

All, I just took a trip from down south to up north and met with a few of my suppliers, did some wheeling and dealing on some of my machines and met some folks whom I have known and spoke with over the years. Notable is Jack ( www.oldcowpoke.com ) , He graciously picked me up as I had my truck and trailer and cannot turn it around easily without something the size of a WalMart parking lot... Anyway, I got a nice tour of his shop, got to play with a bunch of his machines (some for sale, some not for sale). He has a BUNCH of nice HUGE Randall Strap Cutters, a few nice clickers, some sewing machines (some NICE Adlers and a bunch of others), he had a bunch of splitters to (damn , I NEED one!!!). Lots of other tasty stuff for the leather craftsman too.... I snagged a Union Lockstitch from him a bunch of years back, good machine, good guy. Next notable is Smuckers Harness Shop, I met with Moses, check out some of his wares, (harness) and also his machines for sale, a NEAT embosser, a Landis 3 (? unsure...), another needle and awl machine, a Camoga 18" splitter, he had some other goodies too... Anyway, I managed to sell/swap a BUNCH of my stuff, I'll update the ads here. (if'n ya need a 10" randall strap/belt cutter and a clicker...works off home 220! CONTACT ME! I like swpas!) Anyway, I had a GREAT time meeting these guys and am VERY please with the people and thier machines. Andy

Doug, These are my search terms: Clicker die leather machine leather sewing shoe machine (then choose from the menus at the left of the screen) usually "business and industrial" has the most, but you might find things under "leathercraft" and other terms. Andy

Pete, I keep an old mousepad upside down on the bench, the neoprene offers enough friction for a super tight screw set. Andy

I use Frontpage and love it. Some folks use the latest version call Expressions. I have heard mixed reviews. I use 1and1.com for my host, they are cheap, reliable and have 100% up time. I can call them with weird problems (loose nut behind computer...) and they are patient with me. Andy My web pages: www.shottist.com

Dave, I have had a couple of Clickers, I run a Hudson now, works GREAT. I can give a call to get parts and have them in a day or three. Not much breaks on them. I hesitate to recommend any of the "overseas" clickers, one major distributor of them is having a HUGE problem with pumps seizing (probably easily recitified, but a pain for the end user) email me direct if needed on this. I don't want to start rumourmongering and such. Might be a bad batch and easily fixable. A few folks like the Tippmanns, some folks love them, others hate them. You need a real compressor for the larger one, these are spendy. For the price of the clicker alone you can snag a decent used 20Ton clicker that works GREAT. Power: Most are 3 phase, you can get a static or dynamic phase converter to make them work with home 220V (single phase) pricey, but it works well. I recently went to Tractor Supply and saw enough tools/parts/motors to make your own clicker/hydraulic press. Might be a way to click (slowly) without killing your budget. Ebay is home to LOTS of clickers. A gent I recently spoke with uses the "Lucris" hand press, his works well. Looks a little light for my uses (holsters) but might work for you. Anyway, thats my 2 cents, $0.0000009345 after taxes Andy

Bar J, I run an Adler 205 and postively love it, good machine for 99% of my work and sews from light to heavy with ease. I have seen some used ones on some pages and here too (John Stumpf perhaps? John, you here????) I have only spoken with him, seems like a SUPERB guy and knows his stuff. Let me find his web page and email. I have tested the other machines but settled for the Adler after trying them. Hope that helps, email me if needed! Andy www.shottist.com

All, A few folks have asked me HOW to move a clicker in the easiest most cost effective fashion. I have owned a couple and always need to move some heavy iron thing to another spot/home/shop (my current shop is mobile, an 07 cargo trailer fitted out with a complete shop, I take everything everywhere!). Pallet Jack: Usually available to rent at local tool/equipment rental outfits, these are KEY to moving around a shop and into/out of trucks/trailers. Wooden blocks: Lots of them, 2 by 4, 4 by 6, cut lots, you need them to space the heavy stuff while lifiting. Iron Pipe: I like 1" and as wide as the equipment might be, put the pipe under the tools and PUSH! "come along" winch: Hand powered, works awesome to move and strap down stuff. Vehicles: - A guy I know keeps his clicker on a cheap trailer, the Home Depot single axle style. It's backed into his shop, good idea. -Lift Gate Truck: Rental from local truck outfits, back up to shop, pull/push/winch pallet jack and equipment on to gate and lift...works AWESOME. -Engine Hoist: Good for smaller stuff, lifts ANYTHING and is cheap to rent/borrow. Anyway, these are my tricks, hope it helps! Andy PS Email for more details if you are moving anything!

All, I dont use my shears much, perhaps you can! 50" (comes with the guards and such, that are NOT installed on it). Needs wood deck. Works great! Randall Strap Cutters, 2 of them, 10" and 14", both on motorized tables, both work great. The smaller is my 1" machine the larger my 1.25" machine for belts and such. Email me for photos and such! Contact: andy@shottist.com Trades considered. Thanks, Andy

Howdy all..... I spent a few moments in the "tractor supply" store today. Since I am always thinking about 3 things, 1911's, Coffee and Leather tools I was in the "groove" with my GSP (Gunsite Service Pistol, Springfield) sippy cup of java firmly in hand and in front of tools.... Guys/Gals, they have all the fixin's for a clicker on hand (almost). With a bit of creative welding (they sell welders too), you can snag a motor, reservoir, pump and 20++++ ton Hydr' Ram to make yourself a clicker. Check out the tractor turnbuckles too...lots of decent and STRONG hardware for pivots etc. Anyway, I have my own big ol' Clicker (fyi: for sale in this forum!) but I wanted to pass along some DECENT tools to make yer own!
