  5. Hi All, I need a source for Barenia Calf (or somthing more or less identical) as produced by Tannerie Haas. I can buy direct from the tannery, but with a minimum order of 70 skins per colour - out of my league! I need a source that will sell and ship single skins to the UK and am happy to pay a premium for the privilege. Has anyone a contacts they could suggest? Charlie
  6. I'm told by a source I have in the trade that the edge finish Hermes are currently using is exclusive to them - interesting to see if you get further with this Charlie
  7. Well I'll certainly be interested to see the results when people have it - hopefully people will post some photos Charlie
  8. Have you tried it? Id be interested to know how youve get on if so
  9. Hi Andrew. Is this CT0 or CT6 from Beraud you're talking about? Charlie
  10. She is a he, but other than that everyone's answers are correct so far! I made the belts in question, stitching is the last operation for leatherwork made in the English saddlery style, and of course it needs to be sewn by hand to do it like that, but otherwise pretty straightforward. Hope that helps, Charlie
  11. Sadly not, but thank you. The Bowstock product is the wrong one and Abbey definitely don't have any - we buy a lot from them and are on first name terms with them so have already asked. Thank you though, Charlie Hi Busted, PM sent Charlie
  12. Hi there, Many thanks for the reply - we're only using gallons a year. I guess we get through 2-3 litres a month maybe so pretty smalltime I guess.. Charlie
  13. Hi All, I'm desperately after a source of Fiebing Edge Dye in a few different colours. they have stopped supplying outside the US and I haven't found a product the suits our needs better. Would anyone be prepared to buy and ship some to the UK for us? I'd be very happy to pay a good rate if we could get some and we use quite a lot so an ongoing thing. Many thanks, Charlie
  14. Hi Jock, PM me your email address and I'll send you some more info and we can chat about it. Thanks for replying, Charlie
  15. Hi Chuck, Thank you for that excellent detailed reply, that gives me lots of reading to do! Finding catalogues of gu leather for the period is a particularily interesting, I hadnt thought of that. Thanks again, Charlie
  16. Thanks Ray! Charlie
  17. Hi Ray, If you can be bothered and you remember when you next have it open I'd be really interested to know if types are mentioned or you can identify them. Being rather a geek I'm very interested in the history of the West End buckle family and I'm sure they were being used at that time but have no sources to prove it.. Charlie
  18. Hi Ray, I'm curious, if you have the book by now does it make any mention of buckles used? Charlie
  19. Hi All, We're looking for an outworker or two for our rapidly growing business. We need established self employed leatherworkers/saddlers who are capable of producing top quality English style belts to our pattern and standards. Payment will be per piece + a leather fee and all fittings will be supplied by us. Quality of work is all important and samples will need to be seen. If your interested please drop me a pm/reply to this post Charlie
  20. Hi Ray, Staying put has to be a good thing at the moment. I'm in just the same position here, but what if orders dropped off?? Wouldnt be fun to be stuck with a shop + rates you cant get out off without the orders to sustain it. Existing space can always be used better, and if you dont have rent to pay it makes the whole thing so much easier. To me the tipping point becomes when you need staff, at which stage you need moderately respectable premises. Glad its going well for you, Charlie (Equus)
  21. Whilst we dont make holsters we make and sell a lot of bridle leather belts and this is exactly what we do as well. 7 holes 1" apart starting 4" from the tip of the belt with the aim being the customer wearing the belt on the centre hole. As a rule of thumb I always say trouser side + 2", but measuring an existing belt and adding 1" if its mad from poor leather is the best thing. HTH Charlie
