  1. Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to Sheridan to check out as much leather crafting as I possibly can. And whatever other cool stuff is in the area to visit. Anyone have any advice with travel plans as I've never been there before. Not sure if there are planned leather events that I should consider planning my trip around? Definite 'must see' things to do? Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  2. Welcome to Leatherworker OrchidNoir. Sounds like you have some pretty strong leathercrafting blood in your veins and you definitely have a great attitude to make it happen. Looking forward to seeing your work. Don't forget to take a pic of you and your family to carry on that tradition. =o]

  3. I've used resolin for years and never had it crack no matter if i thinned or not.How are you putting it on ? I use a sponge that i squeese out some before i put it on.

I applied it with a foam brush then went over lightly with a large brush to smooth out any air bubbles. Could it be the surface layer of the leather perhaps? I know some leathers just react differently to dyes and finishes.

  4. New guy to Leatherworker and am enjoying all the posts! Love the PIF artisan cards. I would definitely like to be added to the list if it's not too late. Please let me know what I need to do.

(Unless there is some odd club hazing thing that involves me dressing up like Little Bo Peep!) =o]

  5. Thanks for the very kind words!

I used the Eco Flow water based colors from Tandy. I reduced them down with water trying to avoid the thick paint look. But there is only so much you can do and still keep the colors bold. Actually, out here in California it's pretty much the only dyes we can use. Fiebing just introduced an alcohol/acetone out here last week with a low VOC which I'm pretty excited about. It dries completely in 15 minutes and looks great. I'm going to do some color testing with it this week. Maybe post it as a product review or something.

    Best wishes, Rex

  6. Hey everyone. Wow.. I think I already started posting in the wrong area. I'm off to a great start!

Anyway, I just got into leather crafting a few months ago and I absolutely love it. My original goal was to make myself one cue case but from the moment I sat down and started trying to do tooling it just felt right, and fun, and incredibly relaxing. I'm hooked for sure. I'm definitely inspired by everything and trying to learn as much as possible. This site sure is a wealth of knowledge!

I don't want to keep babbling.. so I'll post up some pictures of a cue case I'm working on...

I really wanted to do something different and challenging (to me) with lots of tooling and color dying. This is the outer piece of a cue case that wraps around a hard shell interior. I'll post pictures in the gallery section once I get it all together and completed. Thanks!
