Thanks for this posting! I'll post pics when I finish my first wallet.

Thanks for all the great suggestions so far! They all sound great. I definitely want to see the T~Rex museum (being a Rex myself), and someone also suggested getting over to the Devils Tower. I'd really like to go during a leather show so I may have to see if I can squeeze into a room in may. Sounds like a lot of fun

Hi all,
I'm planning a trip to Sheridan to check out as much leather crafting as I possibly can. And whatever other cool stuff is in the area to visit. Anyone have any advice with travel plans as I've never been there before. Not sure if there are planned leather events that I should consider planning my trip around? Definite 'must see' things to do? Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the site Bill. Looks like you do some nice sheath work. And I have to say, super cool that you have a Falcon!! But aren't they too small to be carry knife sheaths??
Looking forward to more pics of your work. ~Rex

Welcome to Leatherworker OrchidNoir. Sounds like you have some pretty strong leathercrafting blood in your veins and you definitely have a great attitude to make it happen. Looking forward to seeing your work. Don't forget to take a pic of you and your family to carry on that tradition. =o]

Great use of colors and everything (stitching included) makes the wallet look as vintage as the truck. Great job!

I've used resolin for years and never had it crack no matter if i thinned or not.How are you putting it on ? I use a sponge that i squeese out some before i put it on.
I applied it with a foam brush then went over lightly with a large brush to smooth out any air bubbles. Could it be the surface layer of the leather perhaps? I know some leathers just react differently to dyes and finishes.

I've been using acrylic resolin but I notice it cracks a bit on straps. Is atom wax better? Is one definitely better than the other or does it depend on usage of the project? I'm making a case. It doesn't have many 'moving' parts aside from a shoulder strap. Should I be thinning the resolin? Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

Beautiful work. The dye work really sets off the awesome design. But the clean craftsmanship is really what stands out. The sewing lines, overall alignment, and construction look perfect. Great job!

Great job! I really like the light ray point work you did. The coloring is very cool too. As Tom said, great translation of the original.

Incredible work Rusty. As always!
I've been wanting to do a project like this. Looks like it was a lot of fun.

Wow.. that knife is beautiful! I really like how you matched the colors and some of the decorative lines to the wood you used on the knife hilt. Great job!

New guy to Leatherworker and am enjoying all the posts! Love the PIF artisan cards. I would definitely like to be added to the list if it's not too late. Please let me know what I need to do.
(Unless there is some odd club hazing thing that involves me dressing up like Little Bo Peep!) =o]

This is good stuff!
Thanks JB for shaving about 24125 years off my learning curve.

Some really nice work posted!
How do I go about getting added to the list?

Gary, welcome to the site. Incredible work! Looking forward to future posts.. looks like you have a lot to offer us newbie toolers. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool case John. I really like how you 'hid' the back panel by sewing along the lines of the scales. Very unique look and you keep coming up with the coolest little features. I loved Chris's case with the JP pocket! That was genius. Thanks for always thinking out of the box. It's a big inspiration. ~R

Wow.. that's 3 Nor Cal guys in a row! Welcome to the forum Irv.

You're a genius! I never even thought of the idea of a pick case. I've been playing (and losing guitar picks) for years. OK, now I have to make myself a guitar pick case. Thank you!

That's just great work Rusty. As JB has said before, everything about your work is just perfect. Great planning, great design, and flawless execution.
Ok, out of personal curiosity... what kind of pool cue do you play with?
-
Some people are just born with it... I think you're one of those people! That is going to be a spectacular Pool Cue Case!!!
Incredible work Troy! Really unique tooling and just super clean. Wow!

Thanks for the very kind words!
I used the Eco Flow water based colors from Tandy. I reduced them down with water trying to avoid the thick paint look. But there is only so much you can do and still keep the colors bold. Actually, out here in California it's pretty much the only dyes we can use. Fiebing just introduced an alcohol/acetone out here last week with a low VOC which I'm pretty excited about. It dries completely in 15 minutes and looks great. I'm going to do some color testing with it this week. Maybe post it as a product review or something.
Best wishes, Rex

Hey everyone. Wow.. I think I already started posting in the wrong area. I'm off to a great start!
Anyway, I just got into leather crafting a few months ago and I absolutely love it. My original goal was to make myself one cue case but from the moment I sat down and started trying to do tooling it just felt right, and fun, and incredibly relaxing. I'm hooked for sure. I'm definitely inspired by everything and trying to learn as much as possible. This site sure is a wealth of knowledge!
I don't want to keep babbling.. so I'll post up some pictures of a cue case I'm working on...
I really wanted to do something different and challenging (to me) with lots of tooling and color dying. This is the outer piece of a cue case that wraps around a hard shell interior. I'll post pictures in the gallery section once I get it all together and completed. Thanks!
