  1. Johanna, is it possible to add a page called "market place" for hand made, specialty, one of a kind, or production items? I have bought many things here and I see as you do the potential for a nice slice of the market covering things not even imagined at this point. think evolution I do tip of my hat
  2. the horse in all cultures, civilizations has been a utilitarian beast. but before that the horse was a beast of burden, before the Japanese even seen a horse, before they became food they were used to simplify mans life, then became a show his wealth then to fight his combats, making each man on the back of a horse a Superior worrier, keeping him company during his battle. hurting such an animal is unforgivable, we are far to smart to buy the "thats how they do it game" no horse was ever hunted for its meat. that is a result of starvation and careless abuse of a gift given to us that preforms every task we demand. for me it would be like eating my best friend. go check out the horse tripping that goes on in Mexico and the many other atrocities the animal withstands after providing man with the comfort of getting a job done well and quite fast.those injured horses from abuse. those are the animals that go to butcher and so no matter how humanly they are harvested, their quality of life has been compromised and we thank them by sending them to their death! not to leave out the abuse and the cheer of the most ruthless animal alive "MAN" the horse is simply another gift we take for granted. he needs us to become the champion of his welfare. a horse will give and take nothing and we turn our heads looking another way, when they are broken so terribly that they have no decent life left to live the butcher being the finial breath. the horse harvesting industry is disgusting to say the very least. everyone sits by and dose nothing my goods will never be from the skin of a horse. my opinon how they are treated is a sin.

I thank you for the information and shall try your method. thank you again! c
  5. hello hidepounder, I have a question not really about edges but about dying, I was told by someone I buy leather from that when using fiebings oil dye that I should apply a coat of thinner to open the pours...? I was wondering if you had an opinion on this and or a method in which you also followed this procedure. I had been cruising the site looking for a topic on this but to no avail. I am so happy I have found this site and the people here are so honest and generous I look forward to your reply. have a wonderful day crissy

  7. well you are an extreme talent and it is clear the people are wanting to absorb whatever you generously share. information is power on more levels then immediately understandable, anyway I am also grateful that you are taking the time to help out with the visual comprehension of our aim in "pounding leather" I certainly don't feel offended in anyway by the comments, question and such that the topic and references have stirred up. every time you share we all learn something. thank you Crissy aka butchkitty
  8. after reading the thread on mauls I thought I would share this info, gears@ROGERSMACHINERY.COM this guy has various sized mauls I think you can request a price list, that is how I went about it after finding a picture of the mauls in a search.
  9. wow that is beautiful and top of the line for certain. well I have something to work toward. I am going to save the images and zoom in to get a good look likr you sugested. thank you for these Mr. Bobby and I have spent many hours going through posts which are loaded with valuable information not many tight shots of what I was looking for. I was hoping for a visual aid as in what Mr. Bobby Hidepounder has lent us here. Thank you
  10. hello fine leather craftier, I have been searching for images on close up shots of the cuts made properly into strap leather for tooled belts, cuffs and so on. I am wondering if some of the seasoned talent here might have some really close up images of a nice looking cuts, understanding at this point the leather is cased and knife is sharp, my interest is the look of the cut, I am doing fairly well but really would love to know what I should be looking for when the cuts are made.. then when the tooling has begun perhaps a nice close shot of that cut after some nice beveler hits. so that my less experienced self and the like may understand what we are looking for as best results. I would love to apprentice but that is not an option and so I am tossing this request into the mix to enhance our craftsmanship enjoy the day
  11. well I did not have glycerin soap on hand but I did have soap made from seal oil so I tried it out figuring that the leather would respond well to the animal fat content and it dose! so thats how that came about for me. my edging had improved by ten fold with this combination I just need to try out the paraffin for that special glow your work embodies.
  12. hello everyone, I am new to this forum so "hi!" ok my topic is two parts, #1 finishing leather that will lay against skin (people skin) and or fabric. what is the correct line of protection with the lowest effect on the leathers' intergrity? I am looking for a best results kinda answer "if one exists" ? next #2 is there, key word, "one" book with an overall study of leather craft including finishing, leather, tooling..... and so on? I am at the moment making cuffs and belts, not sure why I didn't trip over this before..? but as a medium I find carving leather to be the answer to my immediate crativity spasms. thank you in advance!
