  1. I have a lady that wants a 2" wide dog collar for her English Mastiff. The problem is finding a 2" buckle in something beside a #999 for a rear cinch. I have called Sheridan Leather and looked in both the Weaver and Siegel catalogs I have and they don't have anything that big. Does anyone have any ideas or am I going to have to tell her I will have to cut it down to 1 1/2?

I did the same thing and have put in probably 10 orders with them since.
  3. I would say that the difference is mainly mandated by personal preference. I have heard some cowboys say the cheyenne roll gave them a handhold if things got western, but I have yet to see anyone use it. I guess it gives you a place to grab when packin your wood. I always liked a straight bound cantle myself.
  4. I am working on my first saddle and I was wondering if someone could possibly post up some pictures of how you go about covering a post horn if you do it after covering the fork? I have an idea how to go abou it if doing the horn first but am curious about the alternative. Thanks, Lucas
  5. Nice lookin cack....too bad its goin to MO where all that humidity can wear on it..lol
  6. I have a couple questions after reading all the posts in this thread. What do you use to slick your leather, and how do you go about doing that? What would you suggest on something like a saddle that you cant really line? Thanks for all the help. Lucas
  7. A ranch I worked for fed a lot of protein blocks that came on pallets and had two slip sheets per pallet. I use those for all my patterns because they are cheap and if you mess up you just throw them away.
  8. I don't guess I know specifically...lol... It was a top grain leather instead of a split so that might have a lot to do with why it lasted so well, and it was thicker than most mulehide you can get nowadays. Lucas
  9. The saddle I am currently riding had pighide for a horn wrap when I got it. I thought that it started out a little slower than mulehide, but after you slipped a little rope it slicked up and sped up just like the mulehide. I found that it lasts a LOT longer than mulehide does, and I would have put another one on, but I couldn't find any at the time and so I have chap leather on now. I have roped on mulehide, latigo, chap leather, and pig hide and I would have to say I like the pighide really well. It won't last as long as using an old latigo to wrap your horn but its a close second. Hope that helps ya out. Lucas
  10. Thanks for the responses all they are proving very helpful and giving me more things to think about. Lucas
  11. Thanks for the responses all. I thought that those were the differences but I wasn't sure. I am working on ordering my first tree and I am just trying to convert what I know about trees and saddles from all the miles ridden in them to what I need to order a tree and build the saddle. I like the bigger lip in front of the horn on the wades but I think the gullet height is more important to me so I will probably go with a weatherly.
  12. This is gonna sound like a stupid question but could someone explain the specific differences between a wade, weatherly, and 3B Visalia tree? I have ridden all three and never could really tell the difference, and as I am working on ordering my first tree I was wondering as to the differences. Thanks, Lucas
  13. Vandy, I tried to give him a call and got a disconnected message, but I might have done something wrong too. Lucas
