Hello everyone, I have been experimenting with molding over the past year, I'm quite happy with the results I'm achieving now (check out my molded pen/notebook case I made recently). A few days ago I came across this company Il Bussetto who is making these seamless molded cases (see the attached picture). This looks unbelievable, can you actually make the leather streach this much? Has anyone here done something like this? If so do you have any pictures of your mold forms? I would love to try this out. Cheers, Will

This model is the 29U 172A. Essentially the same as the K models with a few minor changes. As I understand it they made a 29U 171, 172, 173 in Japan. I would guess this is the last batch of Patchers Singer made. I love how mint the condition of this new one is, however it lacks a bit of the character of the Scottish made K models (decals and badges).

Just happened across and couldn't resist picking up another long arm large bobbin 29U. This machine is very mint, and yet the shuttle does the same jumping thing as my 29K60. It sews just fine so I guess I will just have to stop worrying about it!

I have both a new shuttle with the spring and an older one without, and same thing with both. I have messed around with the tension on the bobbin and it doesn't seem to make a difference (although I think I will go mess with this a bit more). Also it seems to be the same when the bobbin is near empty or full. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it since everything works fine, it just doesn't seem quite right. There must be something I'm missing here. Will

Hello All, I recently purchased a Singer 29K60 machine and am hoping someone here can shed a bit of light on something that is happening with mine. I have essentially had the whole machine apart, replaced worn drivers and gears in the gearbox, machine has new bearings in the cams etc. The machine itself seems to be working fine now and the stitching seems good. The concern I have is with the shuttle/hook, as the machines needle is in it's up-cycle, pulling thread from the bobbin, the shuttle with the bobbin jumps, or appears to get lifted to the point where it hits the needle plate. This seems odd to me, the movement seems too much. I have posted a link here to a short video where you can see this jumping happening pretty clearly. Does this happen on your large bobbin machines, if not any suggestions what might be the cause? http://www.talltreecycles.ca/uploads/29k60.mov I have had a look at some small bobbin 29K machines where this certainly isn't happening, but the large bobbin pulls the thread through a small loop in the center of the shuttle, which in my opinion is more likely to cause this lifting. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Cheers, Will

Hello, I'm looking for some advice on how to properly use oxalic acid to remove some small blue stains caused by iron. I've gone out and bought a container of Oxalic Acid crystals and would like to know how to properly mix it, and apply it to the spots. I also understand that I should try and make sure there isn't residue left after the process, what is the best way to remove the residue? It seems like quite a few of you use this stuff, but I can't find much info on the steps to follow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Will

Hi Bill, Thanks for the tip. How should I apply the the oxalic acid/wood bleach? Just wipe a little bit of it over the affected area? Will -
Noobie Question (Spots Appearing After Moulding)

Hmm interesting, if that's what's causing it I wouldn't be too surprised. I'm sure there are lots of small bits of iron laying around my shop, I build steel bicycle frames as part of my living. Thanks for the praise of the moulding, it's for pens/pencils on the inside of a sketchbook case. I'll post up some pictures when it's finished. -
Hello, This is my first time posting here, although I trawl about this forum regularly and pick up lots of great information. I have been experimenting with moulding over the last while and have noticed that I am frequently getting these little dark spots appearing in the leather after taking the piece out of the mould. The leather looks totally clean and clear of spots before it goes into the mould. I have used moulding leather from both Herman Oak and Wickett and Craig and it's happened with both. Is this normal? I have attached a picture to illustrate what the spots look like. Oh and I have been using hardwood moulds that are waxed so as not to take in water. Cheers, Will
