  1. I have come to the conclusion that these little wheels are junk.
  2. I always wet rawhide when lacing with it. I leave about 1" on the end out of the water then I cut it with a razor knife to a point. This creates a lacing needle to push thru the slits I have punched in my leather. I just wish I could find some raw hide lace that isn't bleached white. I would prefer a natural lace in most cases.
  3. I own 4 BP rifles and three BP pistols. Real BP guns not this inline stuff out there now days. It is rare that I shoot anything but BP anymore. Kinda like an addiction. Luckily I can shoot right out in my back yard. I just finished a new possibles pouch and want it to look "Old" Read somewhere about using the oven cleaner. I have tried it on several pieces of scrap and seems to work pretty good. Experimenting with different times and strengths right now to get the exact effect I want. Now if I can get the nerve to try it on my new possibles pouch that I made over Christmas. LOL
  4. I read somewhere that you can use oven cleaner to antique leather. Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance, Johnny
  5. Dang if you lived close by I would give you a piece for free. I do marble and granite work on occasion and have several large pieces out back. My entire leather work table top is marble. It is about 2' X 4' X 1.5".
  6. Apparently you have never taken a reading comprehension class. That is ok. There was nothing wrong with my attitude in my original post, again "reading comprehension". I simply ask a question then proceeded to pay people on here a compliment by referring to them as masters. Most on here are masters compared to me. But no problem. I have found a forum that welcomes newbies and go out of their way to help. I have even received e-mails welcoming me to their forum. Real ladies and gentlemen over there.
  7. No not upset at all. Just surprised that no one took the time to help me out. Tells me alot about the people on this forum. And still no answer to my question. Again tells me alot about the people on this forum. Have a wonderful day.
  8. Well since no one has answered my question I can ony come to the conclusion that no one knows. Guess I will go back to Leathercraft Forum where they know what thay are doing. I received 6 answers the first day on this subject over there.
  9. OK so I am trying new things with every project. I am now making a sheath for a rather large knife. I have some buckskin pieces left over from another project that I want to do an inlay with. My question to all you masters out there is what happens after I finish the sheath and I dye it? The vegi-tan will shrink but the buckskin will not. I am thinking that it will wrinkle when the vegi-tan shrinks. How do I prevent this from happening?
  10. I like this very much. What did you use for the liner? Is this something like a thermos bottle or just a plain bottle?
  11. I stay away from FleBay. They are to anti gun for one and having to deal with PayPal is to much of a hassel for me. And I know a couple of guys that PayPal ripped off. Justclosed their accounts and will not let them have the money in the accounts. I sell on GunBroker.com. Anything from guns to knives to sheaths. And about anything else. No paypal and a small listing fee.
  12. Thanks for your reply. Your test was very informative and helpful. Luckly I have a Tandy's close by so I will be staying with regulat leather dye.
  13. I have several partial qt. cans of various colors of MinWax stain from different jobs from the past. I have tried some of it on small scrap pieces of vegitan and seems to work out really nice. Great for antiquing. Has anyone had any experience with this type of stain and is there any cons to using it?
  14. Real nice looking rig there. I like the Kimber too.
  15. I am right over the line from Charlotte in Fort Mill SC. I work in and around Charlotte.
  16. My first attemp at a sheath. I am getting more serious about knife making and leather work goes hand in hand with this. Up till now I have only made a few belts and a couple of rifle slings. I am trying to learn the art of carving leather now. This is gonna take some time.
