  1. Thanks very much! Now I might be able to walk around my house looking like Slash from guns and roses haha
  2. That question is almost like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg. Thanks for the comment, that was actually my very first attempt at carving. I owned a 1971 Triumph Bonneville Bobber at the time I had made it. I wish I still had it, it was a real head turner but that thing spent more time in the shop then on the road.
  3. Thanks everyone! The two that I did end up liking because they really had a user friendly website was Roje and Ostrich market.
  4. This just popped in my head so I thought Id like to see what everyone else thinks. Who would love to see a television channel dedicated to leather craft? I think it would be pretty cool, heck they have a shows on just about everything else in the world. Why not this.... unless there is one and I don't get it because I am in Canada. If so I am already willing to blame Bell and Rogers lol
  5. Does anyone have any contacts or links for someone who does custom maker marks that uses metal, kind of like your normal tooling stamps? I am not looking for anything plastic or 3D stamp style like the guys listed above. Also $200 bucks a stamp is out. I know this sounds like a lot and picky but I want something traditional thats not going to cost me an arm in a leg. Thanks
  6. Thanks Dave! your turning out to be my new best friend lol
  7. I figured I would post this here since its exotic but I guess it could go in the supplier forum too. I am looking for a supplier for shark and stingray. It doesn't have to be the "best, best, best" quality as I am just starting out with it all so money is a bit of a factor...sadly. I did a search on here and found a previous post that is very similar and got a bunch of names from that one but can't actually find anything on their sites. So if you could please help that would be awesome. Thanks! Darren
  8. I am in the same boat. Leather suppliers in Canada are very few and far between and the prices are always brutal because they know its either buy online and pay expensive shipping plus shipping time or buy our expensive crap. So its now come to the point that I am just waiting for my credit card and I am going to buy a few in bulk.
  9. Thanks for the help! will be sure to check out your tutorial!
  10. Tried to search this out but couldn't find the exact results I was looking for. So I just finished watching the Chuck Burrows DVD on making custom knife sheaths, I watched close to 3 hours of the dvd just to find out how to do inlay work and it was very rushed. In the film Chuck assempled the product before dying the sheath, my question is would the dye process stain your inlay? For example he used snake skin inlay and dyed the sheath black and as I said before he assembled the product first. I am going to guess it depends on the type of inlay you use for your project. Plus then you add your "finish" to the project, I know he is a big fan of Bag Kote but could you use resolene on snake skin and other exotics? SOOOO many questions, thank god for this site! Darren By the way I don't really like this emoticon because spam is delicious haha
  11. Any word on when this idea might become a reality??? Im anxious haha
  12. I always knew Hitler stole the original design and meaning, but I just didn't know it was Native American. If I remember correctly and I usually do, someone told me the original design was Asian. Wrong info gets passed around all the time. I do agree with everyone that it should be brought back to its original meaning but that will be one hard thing to do. Its just going to be a major stigma in history, heck Germans (from what I am told) won't even mention that period in their country. Don't really blame them! HorseGirl your only 17?! Wow I really wished someone introduced me to leather craft when I was that age, my skills would be a lot better today..... I hope! Instead I enlisted into the forces and went that route. It actually wasn't until I was about to leave for Afghanistan until I started to get interested into it. Thank god all that sand I breathed in didn't make me lose interest. Its actually really refreshing to see young people getting interested in this old trade, just don't make any custom with Justin Bieber on it PLEASE! lol
  13. No military Seeing as we all assumed the same unti told otherwise am sure the average joe would think the same
  14. haha yes it was a sign of good luck. Ya the shipping is a bit much even to Canada. But i doubt i would be buying it for a few reasons. 1) morally i cannot lol 2) my profession would frown apon such a thing and could end my career.
  15. So I was browsing ebay today at work .... no comments lol and I stumbled across this auction. I don't believe, actually I know I have never seen this stamp before. Apparently its RARE! lol http://cgi.ebay.ca/Craftool-Co-leathercraft-leather-working-tool-vintage-/230590119889?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b03dffd1
  16. Do you still have the British Shoe machine for sale? If so how much?
  17. Thanks I will check it out. I may have to give this a little bit more time as I do not having a sewing machine and sewing by hand may take a looooong time to do.
  18. When wet molding, what are some of the ways you like to hold the form? I.E tack it with nails, clamps etc.
  19. Good day leather workers, I am looking for a supplier for steel spring clips or spring steel clips or whatever you would like to call them. I know Tandy sells them but they are far to expensive, I am not looking to mass produce products by any means just would rather get a whack of them for cheap compared to $4 a pop. Attached is a picture for reference. Thanks
  20. lol I was wondering where my topic went! I will be stoked when it comes into play
  21. I was wondering if anyone else would like to see a seperate folder in this topic were people can post their pdf's of patterns? If we get enough interested is this something that could easily be done mod gods?
  22. Just wanted to say I tried this step into casing leather and I didn't let it come back to original colour stupid stupid stupid stupid me. Only good thing that came from it was that I was just practicing my swivel knife, bad thing was when I bevelled it looked horrible! I will try again tomorrow, don't know if its lack of heat in my house or what but its been 2 hours and it is still dark as when I first placed it in the tray.
  23. I would like to bring this thread back to life. Any new patterns people want to share? The one on here with measurements I can't even understand lol
