  1. Just wanted to post a few pics of my stitching horse I refurbed several years ago. This was an an old barn find out of California purchased off Ebay. I spent about a month tearing it down, sanding, refinishing and have used it for about 10 years now. My wife thought I had lost the last bit of sense I had when I bought it.

The "Lil' Dude" Pro Stitching Tree I purchased from the old HideCrafter Leather Co. I have since modified the base to provide a tilt forward capability of about 30 degrees. I was wondering if anyone else owned one of these? I have also been considering modifying it to be similar to a Dale Grabowski Sit and Stitch as thread can get hung on the "Dude's" external tension adjustment hardware.

  2. Too much as a general rule. I am ordering some antique paste to try and the shipping for 1/2 pound of product is going to cost me $4.50. FYI...UPS announced this morning they are going to tack on additional "surcharges" for home delivery because, as they state it, revenue from home delivery is not meeting their expectations.

  3. Yes, the order details were worked out through his web email address bearmauls@yahoo.com. I will admit I had the same apprehensions but our communication was good, although it did take a few days between replies. My order took about 45 days to get to me.

The craftsmanship is excellent and was well worth the wait. Ed delivered as promised and I have no reason to think he would not do the same for you.

  4. Just wanted to mention something I noticed on the photo of the stand only, there appears to be a blemish on the top at the left of the stand. I am not sure what happened when I took the pic, but there is no flaw in the wood.

I just did not want anyone to think that the quality received from Beary was less than 1st class.

  5. It's been forever since I last posted but I had to share photos of my new maul set from Beary Stiles.

Rosewood and maple 15 and 20 oz. mauls, hammered end caps, and matching stand. My pics don't do them justice, the workmanship is perfect. I can't say enough regarding the quality, 1st class in every way.

Many, many thanks to Beary for the excellent job he did. I am thrilled to own these and plan to put them to great use now that I am not traveling constantly with work.

    Thanks Beary!!!

  6. Welcome to the site and the group from another Indiana leather worker.

I second the previous comments, Great site, Great information, and even Greater Folks. There is something here for everyone no matter what their skill level and always new ideas and leather work to inspire you.

Jump in and have some fun!

  7. These are some of the carved panels from the Al and ANN Stohlman workbench. There also used to be patterns of these that were printed in the old "Make It with Leather" magazines. Perhaps someone on the board has them.

You might try a forum search on "Stohlman workbench". Would likely pull other past conversation concerning the Stohlman's bench.

  8. I use the mini-techlite dual LED "Larry Robinson" model and have found it to be extremely helpful. My problem was also shadows that were hard to get rid of with typical swing arm lamps. The mini-techlite does take a little getting used to, but I have found it great for keeping the light focused in front of me and on the work and the magnifiers are a great help.

I use mine at my regular job as well which involves examining electronic circuit boards and was the primary reason I opted for the dual LED model. The extra illumination provided by a wider field of light has been well worth it.

    My two cents worth...

PS- A note on the photo. IMG_1442(1).jpgI have modified the headband slightly on mine to allow it to pack up a little flatter when I travel. The headband is all one piece as they come from QED Lighting.
