They have code numbers on them. Some have more clearly identifiable uses on them for example: "Lock Stp" or "Gusset" , Most just have code letters and numbers. I noticed one set (5-6 pcs I think) was for a "3-way back pack" but have no idea if it is complete without a master list. Hence the "value auction". It brings what it brings. They appear to have been jumbled together without regard to ever matching them up again. The key would be to creatively identify potential uses and just use them for your particular need. At this price, kind of hard to go wrong even if many found their way to the recycle bin. I was told that some of these exceeded $200 each new. Even at $100 each you can do the math. I figured someone that does bags, purses, luggage, wallets, wristlets, might know what they could be for and wanted to give every financial incentive to drive to come and get them. I have 4-5 times the amount shown! Black, tan, brown, dark brown, several shades of olive, a yellow color they call seed pearl (looks off white when separated from the spool) burgundy, grey blue, All nylon, most of it is American & Efrid, some Uniset. One size is 46-2. Appears to look like #69. Any of you heard of such size chime in. This was all used on Hartmann luggage. rob@cobalttn dot com

Craigslist & Ebay! I search it everyday. A Seller by the name of "southerngent" on ebay has some nice American alligator in FL. All gator is pricey so prepare your work before you cut. Dont be confused with caiman or nile crocodile. They are NOT the same! American alligator bellies are the only way to go.

Dont know the answer to the question on thinner but this is not a government regulation but simply a tandy "change" in product attempting to be "green" I called barge, and they still make their Barge product (red & yellow can) just not the proprietary tandy formulation. Masters still makes their product. Government did not force any reformulations. Remember we heard the same thing about Neat-lac. Yet it is readily produced under a different trade name.

No disrespect taken. ) As long as the compression from stitch line is tight to the front panel, and from the front panel to the veg tanned below, there is little room for movement... provided of course the the veg tanned below is formed tight to the pistol. American alligator is indeed expensive, and not the hide you want to use without some experience in full coverage builds. On an ancillary note, I find that using the smaller (and thinner) hides (4-6 foot)are better at showing the boning lines. Perhaps more noticable on the 1911 since the lines are readily recognizable. However the larger gnarly scales have their own unique beauty and seem to appeal equallly to many.
