White Dye?
joker replied to joker's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Hey Luke that looks like it would work. I just need to make sure that it wont wear off because its going on a seat and there will be alot of sliding around on it. Hope I can find it local and I will give it a shot on a test piece first. Thanks again Joker -
Help With Color
joker replied to bullshooter69's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Antique Saddle Tan gel from Tandy will give you this color, I think its pretty close. Joker -
I have got to do a solo seat for a customer. Its a police solo off an old harley dresser. He brought it to me today and the seat is wore out and cracked. The stock seat was covered in vinyl and he wants it done in leather. Here is my problem. I usually use natural leather and then dye it. Well to dye the seat white with the dye from tandy is going to take alot of coats to make it white. The other option is to buy a side that is already white but I only need about 4 square feet to do the seat and can only get it in full sides. Not much call for white leather. Is there a white dye out there that I can get that will cover and give me a really nice white finish? Any help with this would be great. There wont be any tooling in the seat part so the leather dont have to be real thick. Thanks Joker

All my stiching is by hand, I dont have a machine. I mold the leather to the bottom and secure it with doubleside tape. Then I mold the top over 1/2" foam and let it dry. the take off both and clamp them back together and use a 4 prong flat punch to punch the holes. Then I use a saddle stich and wax thread. Most of my seats only have about 1/2" of padding in them. These solos mainly get the suspension from the springs. I have done alot of them with no padding at all, just leather on top of the pan. Thanks for the kutos! Joker Thanks for the kutos! Ya its a mixture. I used the white Tandy acrylic and mixed in just a drop or two of black acrylic and then thin it down for better penatration. It has worked well before for me. Thanks Joker

Anyone Ever Send You A Pan That Is Far From Perfect
joker replied to billymac814's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
I have had a couple come in that needed the welds cleaned up and the pan needed grinding on to make it even. Has a pan for a fat tire bike that the owner beat the pan out of some metal I think came out of an old 55 gallon drum. I was lucky that he was local so I had to go to the shop where it was being painted and rework the pan and make sure it was still going to fit. It came out good and he was tickled with it, so I guess its all good. I got a pan coming first of next week, suspose to be a Fab Kev pan but it is used so not sure if it has been beat on or not, just have to wait and see. Joker -
Those are the domes off of a set of shovelhead pistons.

Thanks for the kutos guys! Tooling the letters are kinda a pain to do but I just us a wide bevel on the long runs and then the one that is about 3/16" wide. If it gets some tool marks I will use a molding spoon to smooth it out. As far as the edges go I just wet them down and give the edges a real good smoothing and then after I get them dyed I used the edge dressing from Tandy and just rub the daylights out of it. I use a round nylon tool that I made years ago and it works real well. Joker

Couple Of Little Belts
joker posted a topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Had a couple of ladies at work want belts for thier nephews. The single one is for a little guy that is only 1 week old, some pretty small floral. The other two are for boys that are 5 & 6 and she wanted thier names on them and then I just did the basket weave to fill them in. Thanks Joker -
Just finished up this seat for a guy in Indiana. He wanted the deadman's hand aces and 8's and we decided to make the last card face down with a bullet hole. He wanted the cards to look old and for it to have and overall antique look. He asked what I thought about putting a real bullet hole through the whole seat, I told him once he got it, he could shoot it if he wanted but I didnt really want to. Just thought I would share. Thanks Joker A little better pic

Made this for a guy in North Dakota. He needed a panel that would take up the space between his dash and tanks. I did this one out of about 1/4". Just thought I would share. Joker

Mt very first seat from the pan up
joker replied to ValinorKings's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
I agree on the pan curve. When you bend them and they look about right, take them just alitte more. Ya really need a good butt bucket to keep from sliding off. The seat looks great! Joker -
Ok Troy I get it, the whole kitchen table thing huh, LOL. I had to move the tators over so I could dye this one..............
