  1. Thank you Bill, that's very nice of you. I wish I could say yes to the hand stitching but I'm afraid my old hands just won't do it any more. About two months ago I purchased a Tippman BOSS and it now looks after most of what I have to sew. I seem to be getting busier now so I think one of these days I'll buy a Cobra 3 or a 4 perhaps. I understand they're even nicer to use then the BOSS. Thanks again for your kind comments. Bud
  2. Thank you kindly for the nice comments. Actually I use a lot of Tandy products in what I do simply because it's easily accessible. The color for this rig is their water based dyes and it is called desert tan. The only thing I did was cut it with water a little. I usually mix about 16 ounces at a time and I mix it two ounces of water to fourteen ounces of dye. The finish is a coat of Fiebing's Resolene, and after 24 hours I give it a double coating of Fiebing's Leather Balm with Atom Wax. It seems to do a nice job of giving it a shine, as well as giving it a waterproofing. Bud That is nice..... One of the best ones I've seen. The finish on it looks great nice and bright. What kind of dye did you use? How did you seal it?
  3. Amazing, and the world thinks Gucci handbags are top of the line.
  4. Hello everyone; I don't think I've ever shown my work here before but I thought I would show this project to you. Thank you for the opportunity to display one of the items that I make. This is a rig I just completed for a gentleman in British Columbia. Your comments would be most welcome. Bud
  5. I think it's beautiful. You skill in stitching just amazes me. It would be an insult to say it looks machine stitched. I think the world should recognize that there's a new stitch for leather goods. It's called the "Armitage Stitch"Great work, very impressive.
  6. Hello and thank you so much for your kind reply.
  7. Hello everyone;I was hoping someone here could help me. About a month or so ago I bought a Tippman Boss. I bought three extra bobbins at the time and now (more colors) it would help if I had four more. I email Tippman and the lady there says thank you and the shipping costs will be $20.00 Now, admittedly I live in Ontario, Canada and they tell me this is the cheapest rate for Canada for four bobbins in a padded envelope.I think this is absolutely unbelievable. So, I was hoping that someone here might just have a few extra bobbins that they could sell me. If this is something you could help me with I would gladly pay you what you want for the bobbins, within reason of course.Thank you everyone, and I hope I didn't ask this in the wrong place.Bud
  8. Hi; I believe that bit is called a King's Dressage and is used together with a snaffle. Not 100% sure but it looks like one. Bud
  9. Years ago I rode for a few ranchers, and my gear often got soaking wet and froze overnight in the tack shed. The bridles got the worst of it as they were smaller, and thinner pieces of leather and were usually frozen solid clean on through. In the morning you just used it as you normally would and within a few minutes of being back on the animal it would be thawed out nicely. Saddles also used to get pretty wet and frozen but I've never experienced anything bad happening if it did freeze. Hope that helps some. Bud
  10. Well, that certainly answers my question, thank you very much, I appreciate this sort of information. I think I'll stick with the Tippman Boss I was thinking of buying on Monday. I see they're on sale for $1,195.00 for the summer. Thanks again for all the replies.Bud
  11. Thank you. I have seen that page but it offers little in the way of what It can do as far as leather weight etc.Bud
  12. Me too please? perhaps I could learn to tool leather condoms.
  13. Hello everyone; I was hoping you could help me with some information about a Singer, Model: 168G 101. I have a golden opportunity to obtain one today and was wondering if it would be satisfactory for sewing heavy tooling leather. For example, would it stitch two or three pieces of 8 to 10 oz. veg. tanned leather together? I thought that with the post, and nice wide throat, that it would be ideal for a lot of different projects, but don't know about the capacity of it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this machine.Bud.
  14. Hi there. Well sir, I'm just new here and have been working with leather, making gunbelts and holsters and that looks to me like you're doin' real well. You don't have to take a back seat to anyone with that sort of holster work so thanks for showing it. I really like your work.Matchlock
  15. Thank you very much for your timely reply. I think you just saved me $400.00 I really appreciate that. Thank you.
  16. Hello everyone; After nearly forty years of sewing everything by hand, my old hands need a machine. Perhaps it's just an excuse and maybe I'm getting lazy but I still want one anyway. I have an opportunity to pick up a used Singer Sewing Machine Model 211G166 and was wondering if it will be suitable for sewing two pieces of 8 to 9 ounce tooling leather. Thank you for any help. 17. Thank you very much for the kind welcome, it is most appreciated.

  19. You know, you asked formy email address when I joined, and I joined because I needed something. Now I try to purchase something from a Forum member and it says I don't have permission. What's the point in joining something and proving I'm human only to be told I can't use the forum. Can I get access to what I need or shall I just find another forum?
