  6. TwinOaks Thanks, now I understand why. I would also say that in speaking with a manager of a leather shop in Rome in a certain opportunity he said "there are around a lot of mixed tan skins, industries mix vegetable and chrome ...." I will ask more explanations and I will keep you informed I also want to say that I am organizing an introductory course in leather work for youth (Boy Scouts) and would like to use one of those kits by TL for beginners but I would ask if you know and can tell me where I can get (on the internet) a "program type " to divide classes and arguments in order to best achieve this goal. I am enclosing pictures of a couple of works.... leather bags for motorcycles (the origin of my first question)
  7. I hope to be excused, I'm in this wonderful world for a short time and not everything is clear to me..... I always read to use "only" vegetable-tanned leather and NOT USE chrome-tanned leather ... why? If I use the black colored leather what can happen? I used black colored leather twice and it seems to me that everything is ok, am I wrong? Thanks in advance for your advice

  9. I live in Italy and here there are no places or courses where you can learn this marvelous art... so I am an autodidact I wonder what would be the program to follow to learn about leatherwork and I would be curious if there are some among you that can give me an idea about a program to follow in a "tipical" course. someone has a program that can suggest to me? I think that in your country there are many courses... is it possible to know about the program and its contents? thanks in advance falco pellegrino

  12. Yes, I'm sure because before I did not have any instrument usefull to carve, my first trial was with a little screwdriver and a normal hammer. In Italy, despite the fact that we have some of the best tanneries in the world, do not have enough leather engravers to have also a certain number of stores that sell what you need to carve leather. I bought my tools at tandy's leather in Jenuary but I was working leather ( for bags ) for 3-4 years and I'm a graphic designer with computer so I'm quite expert in matters of drawing with layers, this help a lot. But as you can see, actually, my limit is not carving the leather - I have been learning for almost a year and I think I do it not so bad and I'm still learning- but dyeing and antiquing. I found this site looking for somebody who could sell the Fiebing's Antique paste! Indeed, since you live in the UK, maybe you can recommend me a shop located in your country that sell and ship by mail this kind of products.. Here are some other samples of my passion....
  13. Hello, my name is Sergio, 58 years old and I'm from Venezuela, and I live in Italy for many years. I am a craftsman and actually I produce customized bags for Harley-Davidson and Triumph, but I do not mind working for other brands. Carving leather by January 2010 and I am attaching some of my works.... Now, after 10 months, I'm ready to go to learn to paint and antiquing leather but keep in mind that if you want to recommend some procedures and products that many American companies do not sell outside the U.S. and Canada ... Thank you in advance for your lessons
