  1. Thank you! It took me a month or so. Lots of problems arose from making it. It's much longer than the average one so I ended having to put braces in. And I had to re-do a few things to get it just right. You have to be a hundred percent on your measurements and angles. Might I suggest you making one by making a wooden box first then cutting it open. I used 1/8" plywood. It's based off of the Leather Cases Vol. 2 book by Al Stohlman - the Attache. He has another one where you make the box first. Next time I'd go with that one. I added the card holder and the pen/pencil holder on the right to fill out the space. Oh and have a wood shop for doing this one or have someone cut all the pieces when you need them done (it goes in stages, so you can't cut everything out at once (though you could with the pre-made box one). Anyways, let me know if you do make one, I'd love to see it and hear how it went.
  2. Oh wow! That is really nice! I love the overall look and feel of the mask. The scales worked out beautifuly imo. Great job!
  3. This was a nightmare to make. It's a custom sized briefcase I made for my Father In Law for Xmas. I am finally going to be giving it to him tomorrow. I still have to wax the outside and seal the inside with a poly sealer in the morning. And I have to attach the monogram as well. It's covering up an accident where permanent cement spilled. I am grateful to be done. For what it is I learned a lot and will listen to my husband when he says to make something that might be easier (I ended up asking my FIN what he would like instead). I pray to God he loves it. I'm totally burnt out on it. I'll make a soft case any day, but this was just a frightening path from the beginning. I made it from the Leather Cases 2 book by Al Stohlman, the Attache Case. If you are thinking of making one, I suggest you make the one where you build a box frame first. It will save you a lot of time. Ok I'm done. Anyways here it is...
  4. Well this is a Medieval leather case for a book. I made this for myself and for a competition... (didn't win but I learned a lot and got great feedback!). It's made using medieval techniques and materials that were used then. The only thing that is not "period" is the gold leaf on the front, I used composite leaf to show the difference between real gold leaf and fake (the back is real gold leaf). The paints and gesso are also period as well. As well as using waxed linen thread and hide glue for construction of the case. If you would like to learn more I have a document that goes with it (part of the competition was to show your research and experiences with the making of the item). Anyhoo, it was a lot of fun making it and I learned a lot. Can't wait to do more stuff like this in future.
  5. Thanks douglais! Those drinking vessels hold around 64floz. One is mine and the other one was commisioned. I already have another idea for one down the way. Saw something in a antiques auction that I want to play around with. It would work with the larger Kanthros style mugs!
  6. well I tried the oxalic acid and it didn't work. However, I tried the bad for your leather stuff - Acetone. I carefully got the stuff up and out of the leather mostly onto a clean rag. I know it's not good for leather. I will be conditioning the leather with olive oil or Neatsfoot oil. Then using a special wax to water proof it. I'm hoping the conditioner helps to heal the dried out areas. Luckily it wasn't too badly smudged. Thank you again for your help I really do appreciate it!
  7. Wow, thank you so much! I will do both things and see what happens! Luckily I keep my scraps. I'll try it out tonight if I have time... hopefully I can find some oxalic acid in the local hardware store.
  8. Oh well, Hey thanks for posting anyways!
  9. Well it 's not exactly a spot as much as it is two smudges from my hands when trying to fix another accident. I got two small smudges on the outside of an undyed attache case (which I just finished). The owner does not want the outside dyed. So i am praying that there is a solution to draw out the dye. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, I have some extra cement (permanent kind) that got on one or two spots inside the case and I have to clean it up. Is there a way of cleaning that up as well? Very depressed, Barry
  10. Did you already sell this? If not I am interested in purchasing it. Barry
  11. wow! That is awesome! You Sir have just entered into my book of great thinkers. Really cool. Thank you.
  12. So does this mean your finally taking orders again? I had emailed a question about you making a burnisher like what you have for the drill but for the dremel instead. I need one of those points on the end so I can burnish the inside of the belt loop holes for my "future" pistols. I'll send another email as well.
  13. well I am looking to get into the holster making thing... and that right there is awesome! You've already got me thinking about some new ideas. Really beautiful work there. I can't wait to show my husband. And I am also really glad I purchased the Stohlman holster making book. Your work shows that it can be brought up to the modern speed.
  14. really nice work. It's so clean it almost looks fake! Great job tooling.
  15. This is awesome as usual! Though, I have an issue with just one thing.... The belt totally takes away from your armor! Great job.
  16. wow that sounds cool. I wish I lived closer. I'll let my friends in the area know about it. (but they probably already do)
