  1. I agree with Hivemind. I recently made a three point chest harness back quiver for my brother and I measured from where it would attach to the ring over the shoulder he waned it slung over and to what point it would attach to the body of the quiver. I then measured around his chest to determine the other strap length, adding several inches to each side for the attachment to the ring. I made it so that the chest strap can be adjustable around the body with a buckle end. However, if you are producing these to sell at a convention or a fair I would suggest as Hivemind did to make them long and then you can trim them down later. In fact you can still sew everything together and then trim the free strap end to the proper length. However for a truly custom job, I would not attach the ring to the straps until you had taken someone's measurements and then you can hand sew it together and they can pick it up later. That's just the way that I would do it, for what it's worth.
  2. I met the Daughter and son-in-law of Robert "Bob" E. Lee Brown yesterday. I was admiring the handbag he had made for his wife. :)

  3. Thanks for the advice! I am always looking to improve and it is great to get some real opinions about my work. What I can do better. My family all think that it is great work, but then they don't really see other peoples work or know what to look for when they do critique. Please feel free to make any additional comments about what I can do to improve. cheers!
  4. Some of my work. Hope you all enjoy it!
  5. Trying to figure out the gallery....

  6. I've experimented with the white acrylic eco-flo product for belts, I have several people who want white leather belts. I use veg tanned leather. I find that if you thin it out then you get a better coating, you just have to go over it several times, letting it dry in between coats. Hope that helps
  7. The Al Stohlman book is a good place to start. It has oak leaves and flowers and roses. I think it is volume 2 but I'm not positive.
  8. I have the same problem, or almost the same problem. People ask me what I charge for something and I'm never quite sure what to tell them. I've only just started selling things for profit, most of my other work has been for family and they they basically just pay for the material and I do the work. I've only been leather crafting for three years now. Like for a belt... what should be base price for a custom belt be, where do you draw the price range lines, people balk at how much a custom piece of work costs. what about other things. I'm never quite sure what to say. because I hate saying one thing and then discovering that it was more and then they don't want to pay more. Help please.
  9. I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this, but as we were talking about designers and brand names I thought I would stick this in and see what you all think. I recently had an old friend approach me to do some custom work. He showed his boss who is the CEO of Blaque Tye in Las Vegas. It's a new clothing line, but they wanted me to do some prototype belts and I agreed so I put out the money and time to design and make the belts and now they are not sure if they want to pay as much as they cost. And considering I am giving them a sharp discount and only charging them 148 for four custom belts and buckles (this includes the cost of material) Does this seem fair to anyone else? Or should I tell them to forget it and sell them locally for twice what they are willing to pay. Let me know if this is in the wrong area. I'm new to the boards so I haven't found my way around everything yet.
