  1. I am debating between picking up either Jeremiah Watt Horseshoe Brand Tools , the Weaver Master Tools or Ron's Tools Edge Beveler. I am looking at edgers for Holster and belt making. Holsters in the 7-10 oz range and carry belts around 1/4" thick. Horeshoe brands 1,2,3 and 4 are different sizes than Ron's Tools 0,1,2,3,4 round edge beveler. It seems Ron's numbers are larger than J Watts in size and also the Weaver Master tool beveler. Seems like no standardization in the number sizes. What size tools are you ordering for general holster and belt work?
  2. Very sorry to hear that. I just did some business with him last month. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
  3. Love your work. Your stitching is beautiful. Can you tell me what weight HO leather you are using on the fold over mag pouch and the 1911 pancake holster
  4. Update: I ended up ordering 4 quarts of the Angelus dye direct from Angelus for $44.00 + shipping. I couldn't get them to send me 1 gallon at the $33.00 price without the $25.00 hazmat fee. Still best price I could find on the net.
  5. I have my tax ID sent in and received a catalog from Weaver this last week. I will text you and see when we can make it out there.
  6. I think the stitching looks decent. Still needs some work. I will make the mag pouch a little deeper and see how that works. I will give the stitch up the cut a shot and see how that looks. Thanks!
  7. It actually took me 6 times to get it where I think it is decent enough to show in public. LOL I am adjusting the patterns now. Just need to play with it a bit. I agree Lobo. Thanks for the compliment.
  8. These are a couple mag pouches I have made that I need some professional eyes to critique my work. Let me know what you all think. I used Hermann Oak 7/8 oz shoulder leather I got from Springfield last week. Hand stitched with 277 nylon thread. The G30 and G19 pouch I dip dyed with black Fiebings professional oil dyes. I really like that black. I applied neatsfoot oil and allowed it to dry for 24 hours. I finished it with Angulus 600 acrylic finish. I did the Hidepounder method of burnishing but I am not sure if I burnished long enough. I used "pull the dot" snaps instead of a tunnel loop. I prefer being able to remove the pouch without taking off my belt. I also picked up a manual vacuum sealer from ROAROCKIT.com on the suggestion from Shaunny Rotten. http://www.roarockit....php?prod=01301 It works really nice. I just used my fingers to bone through the 20 mil thick bag. Not 100% percent happy with the G30 mag pouch. I don't know if I need to make it a little taller or not. Not happy with the stitch line either. I am having a problem getting it closer to the magazine without bunching up the leather around the stitches. I don't know if it is because it's such a stout magazine or my design is just wrong and needs work. The G19 pouch turned out pretty good but needs some work I think. I have a bunch of 1911 pouches I made and just need to let the neatsfoot oil dry, do the last step of the burnishing process and put the acrylic finish on it. I will post some pictures when those are done. G30 mag pouches G19 mag pouches All criticism and comments welcome.
  9. The Dixon and Ron's tools look nice. I think I am going to run down to Weaver in the next 2 weeks and check out there weaver master series tools and the Horse Shoe brand tools . I need to pick up some leather so i might as well get some tools why I am there. Shooter you are more than welcome to come along if you like.
  10. I picked up craftool edge beveler #2,3 and 4 for holster making. Is it me or are the craftool edge bevelers of real poor quality? I tried sharpening them and stropping them and feel I can't get a nice edge on them. I don't know If I am not sharpening them right or if they are just poor quality and I should look elsewhere and spend the cash on a nice one. Any recommendations on what brand edge beveler and size for holster, belt and mag pouch making?
  11. I must have misunderstood the women at Angelus. I thought she meant pints and quarts got hit with ORM-D fees. Thats good to know cause the price is right over at Angelus for smaller anounts.
  12. LOL 55 gallons would be awsome. My wife would freak out if i ordered one of those barrels I think I would do it just to see the look on her face. I only need 32 oz. at the moment TurtleFeather charges $10.00 per pint. They don't carry quart containers. $27.75 shipped for 2 pints to Ohio. I called Angelus and they sell the quarts for only $11.10 and the gallon containers for $33.00 but there is a Hazmat fee of $25.00 on top of that for up to 4 gallons. Shipping still needs to be included in that price. $26.10 plus shipping for 32oz. Probably another $10.00 for UPS shipping. I just contacted Kevin at Springfield Leather and he only has the 3 oz containers but can get the quart containers if i order 12 quarts or get enough people to order up to 12 quarts. He has only had 3 people since November inquire about the larger sizes so i don't think he is getting any in soon. Looks like I am ordering from TuttleFeather. Thanks for the links and suggestions!
  13. Looking for Angelus Leather dye in quart and gallon sizes. I believe the spirit dye is No. 500 I can only find in the 3 oz. size. Any help will be appreciated.
  14. Eaglestroker that is awsome. I love DIY stuff. Could you show some pictures of the drawer open so we can see how you place your leather items and how you have the PVC pipes set up.
  15. I wonder if 3/4" .20mm thickness stainless from ULINE would work for throad reinforcements. http://www.uline.com...Steel-Strapping
  16. For those that are using metal reinforcement strips. What material and where are you getting it from? Steel or aluminium?
  17. I called Springfield and was told the that they will cut me a couple shoulders of 7/8 HO. I went ahead and ordered some. I would like to try some Wickett and Craig. Does Weaver Leather in Mt Hope Ohio sell Wickett and Craig and Hermann Oak? They are only 50 minutes from me. Might have to get myself a tax ID and try them out.
  18. Interesting. I was about to drop almost $300 on a electric vacuum pump and kit. I might have to look into the manual kit. Looks to be $60 plus shipping. Shaunny how has the Roarockit kit held up for you?
  19. I bought some 7/8 oz B grade side from Springfield a month or so ago and it was fantastic leather. I believe it was $7.69 a sq. ft. I see on Springfields catalog they have HO shoulders for $5.99 sq. ft. (not listed on the website though) Has anyone been able to compare the Hermann Oak shoulders to the HO B grade sides? I am debating if I should try some of the HO shoulders or just stick with the B grade sides for holster making.
  20. Are the Alco teflon contact cement pots worth it over just the plastic ones? https://www.tandylea...ature=Product_8
  21. Wow I didn't know you had to cut the dye. Would you use Acetone or denatured alcohol to cut the dye? What ratio to say a 3 oz bottle of Angelus?
