For those using the dip dying method on holsters and belts. How much dye are you buying at a time? Gallon? Pints? What size containers are you using? I really like the Angelus dyes and can't seem to find large quantities of the dye. All I find are the 3oz bottles.

Quick question about Pull-the-dots and line 24 snaps. How are you installing them? Is there a special tool or press that you use to install them?

Katsass and Madmorbius both those rigs are beautiful and a bit ambitious for me. My plan is to start a basic CCW belt after Christmas and see how that goes.

No tooling at all. The inside layer will be natural the outside layer will be dyed. Just a basic gunbelt.

I have been searching the forums for a step by step process on making a dyed double layered gun belt and can't seem to find one. Anyone want to share there process on making a double layered belt? I am not sure of the order in the belt making process such as when to dye when to burnish when to bevel when to stitch etc. etc. This is pretty much my first leather making project. I figured I would start with a gun belt to hone my hand stitching skills.

When molding the pouches are you all using real mags with rounds in it or something like RINGS Blue dummy mags?

Yup I decided to go with Lobos suggestion and I will also be making my own wax with beeswax and rosin. Already ordered the rosin from US Rodeo Supply. Thanks for the reply Nick.

Thanks for the heads up mp marine but I think I will pick up some of the Linhanyl-brand 277 bonded nylon thread that Lobo suggested. Oh and Lobo I hope to pick up a sewing machine sometime next year. I think a Cobra 4 looks mighty nice.

Anyone have a source for wood burnishers I can use in a drill press?

I found some post on threads and found some people really liked the Barbours Linen 5 or 6 cord thread from the Campbell Bosworth Machinery Co.. Its around $50.00 for 1100 yards. They also have the Hungarian Linen Thread #5 cord, Left twist in 1 lb tube for $25.40. I also saw some posts where people like the the #277 and the #207 thread from Tandy its regular $50.00 also. Springfield has some #207, #277 and #346 for $24.99 I am still confused on what to buy.

I am looking at Tandy's website and I can't figure out which thread to get. Whats a good thread for hand sewing holsters and belts? Waxed or unwaxed?

I haven't seen much information if one of these is a must for the holster maker. If anyone wants to critique my list please have at it.

New guy here. I wanted to say hello before my first post. :^) I signed up in August and have been reading as much as I can the last 3 months. I have always had an interest in leather working but with job, wife, young sons and other hobbies never had the time to get into it. I have finally decided to take the plunge. My main interest is holster making. I would also love to learn how to make belts for CCW. I have 7 uncles, cousins and brothers that have carry concealed licenses. I would love to be able to make holsters and belts as gifts for each of them. I have found a few holster makers on the web and here in this forum who's work I really enjoy and someday I would like to try and come close to their style and skill level. 'particle' of Adams Leatherworks, 'Shooter McGavin' of Zlogonje Gunleathers, 'billymac814' of Mccabes Custom Leather, 'Lobo' of Lobo Gunleather and a gentleman named David Prince, who am not sure posts on here but he owns Prince Gun Leather LLC. There are also many others on this forum who's work are just simply beautiful. Hopefully if my skill level gets to the point where I am happy with the quality of the holsters maybe open up a internet holster business. Who knows. I haven't bought any tools yet and I have a hundred questions to ask but I will put those in a new thread. I just wanted to say hello and let you all know how much I have enjoyed this website.
