Oh then that should draw a lot of attention. Cheryl

Cat, I sell on eBay some and I can tell you most people won't bid when something is that high to start with, unless you're going to do a buy it now, and you may or may not get a bid. If you're going to do a regular auction I'd start them lower and let people bid it up that high. Just the way I do my things from watching other stuff that sells. Cheryl

OOPS
ok 2 words ...... BARACK OBAMA ,
Barack made you close your shop? How odd. Maybe one of the Bushes will buy it. Since I personally am starting up a small business with a grant made available by President Obama's initiatives maybe you ought to look closer to home, or right in your shop as to why you're closing it up Sir.

What a good idea. I wish I had someone like that here. I think there's a guy that does repair work, and the only other thing I found in my area was a ' boutique' called Leather and Satin. I was told by a good friend that my stuff just uh, er, well wouldn't fit in under any category of things they have. :-) Cheryl

Mike, beautiful as usual. sorry to hear about Katherine but glad she's doing better. cheryl

I decided against it, because the guy was thrown off eBay. Not a good sign although i really wanted the machine. Said his sister used his account and ran up a bif bill, and probably is true but I decided not to take the chance.

Really wanted it too couldn't wait to tear into it. But another time. Cheryl

Wow, beautiful job. I want to make me one so badly but I'm still working on cutting straight :-) Cheryl
-
Thanks Wiz because I've wanted one for quite a while but know nothing about them except they were Singer's biggest competitor. Cheryl

I was thinking Fiddle Dee De. DD for short, but AHA!!! is a good name too, LOL.
I've been in using my hand crank 28 to sew my denim and sweatshirt quilt I'm making..... You know Wiz, the material these singers won't sew I forgot to tell Flora she can't sew this stuff, LOL
Gavin be sure to tell Algernon he can't sew heavy materials, that he's just a little wimpy machine

And no harm done Robert, I appreciate it. Cheryl

I get a wholesale discount at SLC plus it's cheaper to have one place ship everything. Cheryl
-
Yeah lots of people I know used barge in Jr. high, but they didn't glue anything with it :-). Seriously, thanks for the link but SLC has these. Cheryl
-
Art, I watched a video when i started making guitar straps, don't use a template. The guy used 'shoe glue.' so when I went to SLC I ran a search for shoe glue and ended up with barge. It's in a tube, and it strings, puddles, can't wipe it off it it gets some where you don't want it without it looking dull in that area. We don't HAVE any local cobblers here that I know of so I didn't have anyone to ask. We have two places listed under leather, a repair shop, and 'Leather and Lace' and I was told laughingly they probably wouldn't have any use for my products.
So the name is Masters for the glue AND thinner? I wanted to get one of those plastic bottles with the brush to use but knew it would never work for this tube of barge. If i thinned it I guess it would but I'd rather use something else, I just really don't like the stuff. Cheryl
-
I thought that was too easy, LOL. So I'm ordering some eco flo leather cement the beginning of the month, I truly hate this barge, LOL. Have it in my ear before I get something glued. c

Thanks everyone,
those links and information really helped....lol I was going through Singers long list of PDF's trying to ID it.
Double C, This is a local Craigslist listing, the folks are wanting 10 dollars for it! But as you say it does look like some possible modifications have been done...I asked the lady if she has sewn with it but she said no, but does rememeber her aunt sewing with it before it was given to her....but we all know how some of those ols sewing machine stories can go...lol.
In another photo of the back of the machine the Singer logo is styill there but a bit tattered.
Hey what the heck, why not for ten bucks...afterall what does ten bucks buy you nowadays??? I would rather spend it on this than a hamburger in a local greasy spoon.
Thanks,
Gavin
No Gavin, I didn't mean that. it's all original and i realized later some of these were all black, didn't have decals, sorry. Great deal for 10 bucks!!!!!!!Cheryl
Looks like a Singer mod#12 to me,I have on @ home I'll have to post a pic of.
Bob
I thought he wanted us to help him NAME it, Like mine are Lucky, Squeaky and Flora, LOL
-
Wiz, you or anyone else know anything about these, type of thread, where to get parts if it needs it? Thanks, cheryl
-
Ya think? I kinda like my restoration projects with a hint of color left so I can tell what the decal was once about a time. Besides doesn't matter about the model number, they were all alike, the 'latest' thing for the home before the VSs came out. You can get a 27 VS1, 2, or 49 but it's just a 27.
You know Wiz i read some where since no one mentions the VS ONE that if ya ever find one it will be a combo of this model with a VS. I'm still looking, LOL.

It's a fiddle based from the 'new family' Singer introduced in the last 1/4 of the 1800s. Cheryl
Give aways?
Way too big hand wheel and the tension adjustment on the base. You put 'em on her up through 1950 and I'll name the domestic models for you.

Messy and hassle are it's good points :-) Cheryl
-
Do you just thin it with water? (I rue the day I bought the stuff, want my eco-flo leather cement back :-) Cheryl
-
Oh I didn't know that, I've never used a template for mine. Just looked at a video, and started making them, and not very well in the beginning :-) Cheryl

Hi all,I recently discover the black river templates on eBay and decided to buy the 3" template to try out. When I opened it I saw 7 pieces. 5 pieces went together to make the usual strap body and adjustment strap. The other 2 pieces joined together to make a short piece with identical radius ends. I can see that this part goes at the opposite end to the adjustment strap. My question is how does it attach to the strap body?Does anyone have a finished strap I could see a pic of?..I am a visual learner
Thanks in advance
Kind regardsLaban
Laban, if I understand what you mean the extra part is a template for putting a buckle on for adjusting instead of the adjustment strap. I think that's why they look the same, they really are only one has the buckle and keeper on it and the other the holes and belt tip. I put mine on with Chicago screws. Cheryl

That's what I told her in my PM Mike, but I never heard from her, not sure she was ever back. Cheryl
