    Help Wanted

Hello Sylvia, I might be able to help you out with this project, I'm not sure what you mean by accurate though. I did a quick google search and found the attached picture of all the American flags over the years. And were you thinking of having it waving our just flat? Gavin.
  4. I'm glad you like it, I didn't have a pattern to work from either. I just followed the basic guidelines in stolhmans book leather cases #1 for the main body then taped that to another piece of paper and drew my skirt around that, I think it turned out to be .75" from the body. I added a .25" welt so the knife wouldn't cut the lace and them put it all together. I measured the keepers around the main body and just adjusted to fit the conchoes I had and after lacing just riveted them to the skirt. The skirt and the main part are one piece of leather folded over so make sure you allow enough space for the belt loop too. I got most of my ideas from pictures off the google and from looking at what other people have posted on this site. I hope this helps a little at least.
  5. Those are nice stirrups, I was thinking of doing things like that but figured I'd start a bit smaller. It took about 10 hours to finnish, 8 of that was just lacing though. Thats after making the patten too, which takes me forever for some reason.
  6. Thanks everybody I'm glad you like my work. It seriously took me 8 hours to lace it up, my fingers still hurt.
  7. That is so cool! I love your pattern, and the stitching looks great to me.
  8. Thanks for the kind words guys. Since I found LW the quality of my work has gone up considerably, so thank you to everybody involved.
  9. This cowboy action style knife sheath with skirt is designed for a bowie style knife with a blade measurement of 8x2". The sheath itself measures a total of 13x4" all edges are adorned with 20 yards of black lace in mexican round braid, fully hand tooled and decorated on 9oz leather with silver and brass colored conchoes and brass hardware.
  10. Thanks for that post, I never would have thought to make it that simple.
  11. Thanks for that post, I never would have thought to make it that simple.
  12. Made this from 9 oz veg tann with black lace triple looped around the edges. I used ecoflow timber brown dye and 1/8" pro lace.
  13. I've been a big fan of those knifes since I first saw them and am also curious to see what you come up with. A far as the shoulder rig goes all I can say is that after totally botching three riggs and searching for months for a pattern with no hope left I think the only option left is to hit up the gun stores and try on what I can find and just combine all the qualities I like. Well thats my idea anyhow, good luck. Gavin
  14. What works best for me is to sand it as smooth as possible, wet the leather and rub saddle soap into it. After it drys it can still be dyed and sealed with super shene.
  15. Thank you, I'm glad you like it. The wallet opens with a flap on top and this one wasn't lined with anything. I'd take another pic but I've already delivered it. The lace was 3/32 pro lace, I was wrong about the name of the braid though it's called the mexican basketweave or the round braid. I learned it from a book I got at tandy leather called lacing and stitching for leathercraft, I tried to take some pictures of the instructions but they all turned out like crap. The next wallet I make I'll take a pic of the front though.
  16. I just read Bob Parks instruction on finishing edges and it was great. Thank you for posting hidepounder. Now a big problem I'm having is rounding the inside corners, the edger only gets to within an eighth of an inch or so and then I've been using a knife to skive the rest of the way. This works, sport of, but I'm always disappointed with how it looks compared to the rest of the edges. I'm new here and may have missed the answer in another post but if any one have any advice I would surely appreciate it.
  17. Putnam Leather A shoulder cannon butt cover and minimalist wallet in western style, the wallet is laced together with the mexican round braid.
  18. I call this the minimalist wallet, it measures about 3" x 4" and holds 6 to 8 cards and some cash. This one sports white hand painted ace of spades with white buckstich and sand colored suade lining. Fits equally well in front, back, or coat pocket.
