  1. Very nicely done!I particularly like the attention to detail in the strap.
  2. +1 standing bears. He will also sell it by the square foot, won't make yuo buy a whole shoulder.
  3. Nicely done. I just completed a purse as well. For structural design, I used a kit. However, I changed to art on it and added lining, etc. I have yet to try designing my own purse, but after seeing yours, maybe I will take a stab at designing my own. Yours looks great.
  4. Maybe a built in tool rack, I'm always looking for a better way to keep my tools, rather than a drawer.
  5. I am pretty new to leather tooling, so I really am asking this without prejudice. Why do you use the backgrounder as the first step after carving? I have been told that the beveler should be used when the leather's moisture content is higher, and that the backgrounder works better when the moisture content is lower (dryer) so why wouldn't you bevel before backgrounding, assuming this is true about the moisture content, with regards to which tool is better for how wet the leather is?
  6. Can anyone tell me who thde member in So Cal is that has Granite for free? I just bought a slab pretty cheap, but would like a little more, and I'm in So Cal, i'd gladly take some off his/her hands. Do you know the name of this member in So Cal?
  7. Crazy, sick, mad skills! I'm soooo impressed by your work. Beautiful
  8. It's not true, I saw him last night (07/17/12) he dropped into the leather store where I take tooling classes. Very cool to meet him in person and listen to him talk shop w my instructor.
  9. I am currently taking classes from a guy who owns a private leather store and he offers once a week, two hours a night, classes for 6 months at the beginner level (he starts with 12 and said his attrition rate is about 50% by the end of 6 months). Class #1 was casing and the swivel knife, then into other tools, etc. it will ultimatly cover sewing, dyeing, attaching hardware etc. I am not a beginner to leatherwork, but i'm fairly new to tooling. I figured even at that, I am hoping to break some bad habits. I am sure he will cover a lot I already know, but much I don't as well. He doesn't let anyone start at intermediate, you have to go through beginner. Then he only chooses 6 of the 12 to move onto intermdiate, as he offers more one on one time in that class. That one is once a week for a year. Hope some of this info helps, if you have any questions about my classes, I'll try to answer them By the way, he only charges $20 a month.
  10. Excellent tooloing on the cover. I have been making knife sheaths and other projects for a little whil, but am new to tooling. I can't wait til I can get results like that,. Kudos sir'
  11. Greetings all, I am new to this forum, and relative newbie to leather work. I have made maybe ten items to include a few knife sheaths, wallets, small key fob type things, an axe sheath and other misc items. In the last couple of days I've viewed this site, I have aleady had many questions answered. The knowledge base here is extensive. I look forward to learning as much as I can here. Thank you for having me.
