Cordovan So this would require pattern making, cutting the parts, hand sewing and finishing the edges, correct, no tooling or finishing? What you have shown is not a problem on either, I can draft the parts on CAD, cut a pattern on a laser, and so on, just need the sizes desired, "a scope of work required", and I understand that you would supply the materials, correct? Also this would be your design and I would agree not to copy. Tim

Would be interested depending the level of detail in the project. Tim

Completed These For Twisted Fringe For Inserts.
tlauts replied to tlauts's topic in Saddle and Tack Accessory Items
I would like to try the brand angelus but I used liquitex acrylic with a blending and painting medium. White a touch of burnt umber mix then a wash of burnt umber blend for the skull and feathers. Then some old spectra shade in red and chocolate brown mix for the shield background and the curved bars are a mix cadmium yellow and burnt umber blend. The far background I used eco-flo desert tan. Thank you for the comments. -
Completed these for Twisted Fringe as inserted Art work. They are three inches in diameter and made from 8/9 oz. The skull is three layers consisting of a background, the shield piece and skull, then skieved down some 3/4 oz to make the feathers and attached them. Acrylic paint and dye for the coloring with a acrylic satin finish.

Andy, Denny is quite informative, think you would enjoy a visit with him. Give him a call. I would like to have him here sometime to give a demo on carving. He is a blast to watch and a great teacher. Tim

Hi Andy, my name is Tim Lauts and I live in Atchison KS but born and raised in the sandhills of Nebraska . Thirty miles from North Platte in a small town, Stapleton. I understand that you are interested in saddles, have a good friend in Arthur Nebaska, one of the best in the country, Denny Rose of Rose Saddlery. Amazing to watch him work.

3.5 inchs in dia. I am making another simular to this for Brenda, twistedfringe.com. Awsome purses, met her at the Haskel Indian Art Market. -
The finished skull with hairpipe Last Saturday I did a leather tooling demo and this is the tooling. I think I will make a v tool for small feathers from an old nail set, rather than this texture.

Computer Drawing Software For Making Leather Patterns
tlauts replied to Blackey Cole's topic in Computer Help
I am a CAD instructor by trade and do leather tooling as a hobby. As for the topic, I would like to add to the discussion. I use CAD for patterns and print them on card stock for smaller projects and use a large scale printer for medium and larger projects. I also use Illustrator and many others, depends on what I feel like using. What I want to share is a great CAD software is Draftsight and there is videos and tutorials by the company, the neat part is the software is totally free. Once you learn to use the software, I think that you will find it rather simple and quite the time saver. Tim
