  1. I went to the local hardware shop and couldnt help myself...i bought an air compressor and airbrush set. I havent had this much fun in ages!!! NO MORE BRUSH STROKES YEH. The acrylic paints go on so much better. I think i will have to attend a airbrush course, but for now i am just having fun. I have uploaded my first airbrush project...The Jesters Crown modeled by my daughter Casey. Cheers

    mask

thanks for the lovely comments, the colour is black leather dye with some gold acrylic mixed in. cheers
  3. i found a website for the transfer paper i use www.saralpaper.com/sample.html they have a free sample offer....
  4. I use a product called Saral transfer paper to transfer designs for my masks and quivers. It looks like carbon paper in that it is coloured on one side, but the package says that it is wax free and after the design is transfered the colour from the paper just brushes away. It comes in graphite, white, blue, yellow and red. It is quite expensive but i have been using the same piece for the last 15 projects and expect to use it for a while yet. It also washes out of material and can be used on ceramic, glass metal etc. I purchased it from an art shop. cheers

    mask

Hi all, i have a new mask to show off. I think i will call him "Midnight Winter" I used black leather dye with some gold mixed in. The leather is 1mm calf hide, soaked in warm water, molded and allowed to dry then painted and sealed. I really need to get an airbrush!
  7. i stained the back and sprayed the whole mask with a permanent clear gloss finish. Time will tell if the stain comes off on the face. My daughter has taken it to school. If she comes home with a black face i will have to rethink the back.
  8. Hi, i have just finished my first mask, as you can see i have a long way to go. The leather is wet and molded on the face and then painted. If you want to see what i am aspiring to, check out www.maskparade.com this guy is really good. I found the leather i used was too thick and i will have to research different types of paint. What i really need to use is an air brush. The other item is an arm guard for archery that i decide to decorate using a wood burning tool instead of carving. Bye for now Leatheroo
  9. hi, i am in Geelong, Victoria. I am lucky that i have a tannery close and they are my main suppliers. Try to track down a tannery, most will sell to the public. I use Birdsall leathercraft supply (they have a web site) for rivets and dyes etc, they mail out really quickly, and i use Greenhalgh tannery in Ballarat for kangaroo lacing and they mail to me as well. I just finished my first mask last night and will post a picture today.
  10. Hi from Australia I mostly make quivers and armguards for archery. I have just started using a wood burning tool on the leather as well. My latest interest is making leather masks. Hope you like them
