  1. I have read all the replies and a few posts have addressed my statement " I find it hard to comprehend the interest in these weapons". I have done a lot of thinking and have come to the conclusion that my lack of comprehension comes from the society i live in. I am 46 years old. I have lived in a capital city and on the Gold Coast and worked in hospitals and casinos and now live in a city 1 hour from the states capital with a population of 500,000 people and have definitely not lived a sheltered life. I have never known a person who owns a gun or wanted to own a gun. I have never known a person who has had their house broken into or was a victim of any crime. I live in a middle class neighbourhood and my personal safety or the safety of my family has never been an issue. Our shops, supermarkets, schools have never had armed guards, even our banks dont have guards. Of course we have crime but it is not an issue that dominates our society. I suppose trying to convince me that personal guns are needed here, is like trying to convince someone who lives in a desert that they need an umbrella. However your experiences make the US seem like a really scary place and if i lived there maybe i would carry a gun. Will things change here? Who knows. Only time will tell. I really was kidding about hunting. I have no problem with it, unless it is purely for the pleasure of killing something. It has been a very interesting discussion Keep safe.
  2. this has turned out to be a great topic and the replies have been great. My original post was complaining of hand pain from the hole punch and an awl gives the same problem. Time is also a factor and i have found that making quivers with the right stitching or spaced holes has no effect on the buyers or the price people are willing to pay, they just dont notice these details. It goes against the grain of good craftmanship, but i have to keep the time and cost limited in accordance to what i get paid for the quivers. They are just a source of side income and the owner of the website i make for, needs the price to be kept reasonable. I really am sick of making quivers this way, but i have agreed to do it. I think making the same item again and again has something to do with it.
  3. thankyou washroad, this is the type of information i was looking for....personal reasons for owning guns and i find yours completely valid. I am not totally closed minded about this , but looking for information and explanations. I think in US where guns are a way of life for many people and always have been, trying to ban them would be a mistake. However, never having had guns here has formed a different community view and we like it this way. Yes i have seen the holsters you mentioned and i find the work absolutely beautiful. OK i am bored with this topic. Who wants to argue about the ethics of hunting?? Joke....Just pushing your buttons!!!
  4. Maybe this is a female thing, i notice there have been no replies from women.
  5. What i am trying to understand wolve is why do you feel the need to own guns? Are you a target shooter or hunter? Or do you feel the need to own guns for personal protection?
  6. Very interesting and heated replies as i expected.
  7. Of course we have target gun clubs here too and target shooting is a very credible sport and the registered owners are responsible and very well screened , and of course there will be illegal guns in all communities, but the average person cannot buy a gun just for protection and there really is no need here.
  8. I know i am going to get slammed for this post and it is not my intention to offend anyone, but i am totally blown away by the number of gun and knife accessories on leatherworker. I can appreciate the beautiful workmanship, but coming from a country where it is illegal to own a gun or carry a knife, i find it hard to comprehend the interest in these weapons. Last year we had only about 100 gunshot homicides in the whole country from a population of 20,000,000 people. I know this is a sensitive issue with a lot of people, but i am glad we have a no gun law in Australia. OK... i am ready....fire away!!
  9. Everyone in Australia watches the fire news from the US. It is so close to what we experience here just about every year. We have had about 5 years of drought here and every summer the fires get worse. The drought is causing a lot of hardship for the farmers, with many just walking away from their farms. Not only do they have to buy water but feed for their cattle and sheep. Therefore food is getting more expensive. Just today in the news a 69 year old man died of a heart attack after getting in an arguement about watering his garden. Watering gardens is not allowed. Nor is washing cars or house windows, filling pools or watering sports grounds. Many people use water from their washing machines and showers to water their garden. Hope the fires are out soon and no more lives are lost. Our thoughts are with you.
  10. Try looking at Google Docs. From google homepage click 'more' and then under Communicate, show and share, you will find Google Docs. You can control who has access and who can make changes. Better still its free!
  11. thanks for the nice comments...after relisting on ebay, i am pleased to say that is sold for $90AU. I'm think it has gone to a good home!!!
  12. I got an email from Paypal saying there was an error in my account and could i please log in to the link supplied in the email. I clicked on the link and it looked exactly like the paypal login page. I thought about it and went to paypal from google and my account was in order. I forwarded the email to paypal and they responded saying it was a scam to get my login details...phishing.. Glad i hesitated...someone would have cleaned out my account.
  13. Awesome air hole punch, i can only dream. A shed or garage to put it in would be nice too. The kitchen table gets a workout! Its not so much the table, but i have to get everything out and then put it all away and then repeat the process the next session. I have told my 13 year old son as soon as he moves out, his room becomes my workshop....probably in 10 years time..!!! thanks guys.
  14. I am sick of punching holes for lacing. I use a rotating hole punch and i find this makes my hand very sore after about 50 holes!! I have tried using one of those hole punches that has four prongs that is used with a hammer but i cant find one that is spaced just right. I recently saw a photo of one of the members using a small hand held drill. Has anyone had much experience using one of these? It looks like a good idea, especially if the leather is thick and many holes are need. What would you put underneath to stop the drill going into your bench....the kitchen table in my house!! thanks.
  15. I called this mask Ocean Myth. My others have sold really well on Ebay. I have been averaging $100, but this one didnt sell. Do you think it is a bit too weird? I have relisted so i will wait and see. My kids call it the green monster!!!
  16. Very nice stitching, it gives a great neat finish.
  17. hi, i have just started making masks and have been airbrushing them with Lumiere. It is a pearlised acrylic paint. I just water it down a bit for the airbrush then seal the mask with a waterproof gloss sealer. I also mix it with other acrylic paints to give them a pearl effect. I dont know if it is available worldwide as i buy it here in australia. Cheers
  18. i'm jealous...i have to use the kitchen table
  19. Still practicing with my new airbrush.
  20. mind blowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. very inventive, it seems alot of work to get some lacing, but i know some people like to do everythink from scratch. Here in Australia i pay about 60cents a metre for top quality lacing which is made from kangaroo hide. I find kangaroo lacing far superior to any other type. I dont know if anyone in the USA uses it. Love your finished products with the lacing you made.
  22. very different, i like it
  23. Another molded mask, i am calling it "Butterfly Queen"...still having fun with the new airbrush cheers
  24. love the celtic design, i use them all the time on my quivers cheers
  25. nice work, this is such a multicultural site welcome
