ooh, a carved kangaroo, nice !!! did you know you can buy kangaroo meat in all our supermarkets now in australlia. it is a very lean meat with low fat content. havent eaten it myself.
I soak in hot tape water until no more bubbles, then shape and dry. the veg tanned leather holds its shape very well after wetting and drying. I have found that the hot water from the tape leaves the leather just a tad harder after drying than using cold water.
I airbrush using acrylic paint and spray a coat of sealer to finish
cheers
i have successful covered mistakes with acrylic paint, airbrushed on the project. the type i use says it is suitable for fabric and leather and is called Lumiere.
Drac, i did it, i did it!!! i now have a turks head on the end of my mallet! dinners burnt, kids are hungry but i have conquered the turks heads thanks to you!!!
The thingy on the left is going to be a drink holder or as we call them here a 'stubby holder'...a stubby is a short bottle of beer. It turned out a bit quick and rough, but just for home. On the right is a hip quiver. I know the lacing should be closer together but the website owner wanted to cut costs so i said the lacing had to be basic and quick.
cheers
leatheroo
lol....i will resist doing that again any time soon. i really dont want my masks THAT hard... that masterpiece actually SNAPPED when i tried to bend it! Air drying will do just fine from now on.
just bought a vl paasche on ebay for $51US and $15 delivery. i consider this a bargain as they sell for $140AU here in australia. cant wait for it to arrive. i think i will buy a H paasche as well for larger areas that need spraying.
My daughter has seen a bag on the internet that she wants me to make. Can i copy someones work, maybe change it a bit? Is it ok to copy this bag but only for her and not to sell? What do i do if someone wants me to make another one to buy?
Could this be called being influenced by someones style but adding my own flair? The bag is $190 to buy and i know i could make it for about $30.
thanks
sorry i could not post a picture as i pulled the attempted turks head apart!! I think my main question is...if i was going to cover something with the turks head am i suppose to be doing it on the piece to be covered which would mean sticking pins in to the piece or am i supposed to be doing it on a mandrel and then transferring to the piece i want to cover. Thanks for helping.
I am trying to teach myself how to do a turks head. I have been using this guide http://www.folsoms.net/knots/tejay However after i finish the lacing bit, the finished product is too big. Am i right in understanding that you have to fiddle and tighten the lacing to fit the project that you want to apply it too? I tried doing this and hours later i thought there must be a better way.
