One Of The Coolest Keyrings I've Ever Seen
tomstas replied to tboyce's topic in Patterns and Templates
I made a few myself. For me 1.8 mm (sorry I'm from Belgium) worked the best. Only one problem. I looked the origninal maker up on google and he also is guy from Belgium called Alain Berteau . I decided not to make or promote any more of them. He lives maybe 50 km from my home and I feel bad just taking his design and make money out his work. He is actually a great designer who won an award 2006 as DESIGNER OF THE YEAR. He has is own collection Objekten but he worked for companies like BULO. -
ouch, that's a nasty stain :-) been there ,done that.. I usually paint outside on a small table on my lawn . Inside I use a cheap shallow box to put all my bottles of dye's etc. in.

I didn't use glue 'cause it's always a mess in my case. I just use an Iron tool with 5 teeth on it (sorry don't know what is called) . If you used it 20 times on your big piece, than you have to reapeat that amount on your gusset. You check if your correct by placing them next to eachother. after that you mark your first gusset hole and first hole of your big piece with a needle and a cork or something else that keeps them together. You begin to backstitch 3 holes further and when you come to the first hole you remove the needle with cork

making small things is actually a cheap way of practicing your technique and people always like those cute small things. I gave this to my son's teacher at the end of the schoolyear. She almost cried when he gave it to her. Small things also make you do your work more detailed which benefits in your bigger projects to.

thank you for liking it, that means a lot to me. I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles from time to time. I'm just glad that there is progress in each new piece I make. Btw, I still think yours stands out more because of two-tone . That is what caught my eye.. you don't have to send me your design(it's appreciated) as I,m more confident now myself and want to keep making unique stuff that comes from my own mind rather than copying other people's work. It gives me a better feeling when it's finished p.s. I also found a second pictureof the bag which shows the rivets. Hope to see more from your stuff as well. Keep up to good work

hi Monica, it took some math and carefull measuring to start from the back but it worked out fine. it was also first time I took my time to make this bag. People say I am always running instead of walking. I try to calm down on my latest projects and that really shows at the end. I'm uploading the picture of the first messenger bar . I had no experience in leatherworking . I only did a little piece of carving . My teacher and I come up with the idea of doing some oldschool bag made out of one piece. One day i came on this site and found your bag and I really liked it. I didn't wan't to steal your idea so I've put some of my own ideas in it. But I've to admit that the pinstriping is almost the same as yours, hope you take this as a compliment of your work. The side are kept together using copper rivets, turned the other way , I had to fit a small anvil in the bag using some wood to get the desired hight

Hello , I'm Tom from Belgium and I've been visiting this forum for over a year but never posted much, I'm learning so i mostly read everything on here. This week I've made myself a messenger bag using the same stitching method as in this topic. I must say that it was time-consuming but not as difficult as I thought it would be. The way I did it was starting with the left backside and stitched all the way down, then I stopped and left the thread with the needles in and then I did the same thing on the right backside with a second pair of needles and a new thread. After this was finished I did the bottom left and then the bottom right, continuing with the same thread. The last step was the front ,again first the left and then the right side. I used a stitching pony for the backsides and after that I found it easier to go on without the stiching pony. I layed the bag on my table. I also have a adler old patcher (30-1 i think) with a lang arm and this sewing machine is ideal for this kind of stitching but it's needs consisting turning on the wheel to become a nice stitchin patron. I need to practice that... That's all for now, maybe I'll start posting more from now on. greetings from belgium

I'm not gonna buy the 138 after all ,although it's a steal... I just don't have the place to store it ,I plan on buying thedurkopp adler somewhere next week and 2 machines is just not going to work here. We will visit the place who sells the adler with our class, The person there told me i could get a discount if I buy it during our visit and take it home myself Our house is rather small and already overstuffed; Want to keep the missus happy to. that s why I'll stick with buying only one for now constabulary, if you want to contact the girls who sells the 138, I can give you the link from her add. Maybe she will be happy o send you the bulb.
-
If I can buyt the 138 I will send you the lightbulb. But 3 or 4 people have shown interest in the machine so it might be sold already.

I asked the girl who Sells it. She claims it has à motor on it .haven,t seen it for myself.my first thought was also raturen without motor. I try to contact her tomorrow. I am only wordend i wont have the place for two sewing machines but i realy thinking it is à god deal and it looks old and kind of cool in its own wat Damn i hate iPads for typing ........'-)

So i've decided what I'm going to do. First of all I'm going to buy the pfaff 138 if it is still availble . Next thing I'll do is buy the 267 new from one of the ofiicial sellers (very soon I hope) . It's gonna cost me more but then I am sure i get a good quality machine and very good service and 2 year warrenty, transportation and installation at home and good advice during the setup. Also it will come with some extra and the setup will be as I want it to be,

Tried the 195 today. It was the only useable for me .the others were no triple transport. Although it is à post machine the Guy had made An add-on metal pièce so it can be easily transformed into flatbed. I USed the machine and it works fine. It looks USed ,this is normal. But I have seen beter one's for beter money to I thinking. He's asking 1300, the 500 was for the lighter types of machines(120,...) I was thinking he world be asking les, his add was Kinda misleiding. I,m not saying he's not honest. His add was just not written wel which is confusing in case of multiple machines. I'm thinking for this kind of money i buy à NOS daler 267,including service, warrenty, installaties and advies

thanks, I looked at some pictures and indeed most of the machines have posts. I was already thinking about the fact if I could change them to flatbed but that would probably cost me some big €€. I will take my fabric with me for sure, He already told me by e-mail that he had problably only 1 suitable for me , guess it's the 195 as you mentioned. So many choices ,so little time.... Seems there is always some small thing that keeps me from buying one. still didn't find the ideal combination... I've als looked at an adler 767 but can't seem to contact the person. It's on sale for over 18 months and is a little bit over budget...sigh...

I think to guy who I'm meeting tomorrow has the same for sale. that way I don't have to go to Germany :-) I don't mind the trip, i even like Germany but i don't find the time to go there. If I go to germany I would make a citytrip out of it, Except when the pfaff is selling for a really cheap price.. . If it goes for €400 I rather spend 500€ here around the corner. I'll try to find a picture of the one i'm talking about

thanks for the link? how much would you pay for it at most?

I just watched the video, great stuff ! that's one of the benefits of having a small shop , time to watch videos and look on the net for info. I hope of doing some work also in my shop in the near future, things like making patterns ,drawing a project etc. I promised my son (4 years old in januari 14) i'd make him a personal game/tv chair out of a vw golf I seat. The theme is gonna be "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" . Think it's quite challenging for a first project, gonna have to do it a couple of times i think. Anyway look forward to it. If i could buy a machine this week would help me alot. For now I can only stitch on monday in class. I also ordered some skai fabric in green/brown/blue (it's the leonardo turtle colour) and this will arrive tomorrow if all goes well. i also ordered the cheapiest skai for practising first, I should be able to do 3 seats with this fabric If I feel confifent i'll use the more expensive right coloured fabric

first post of new day. thanks for the triple feed info. that makes everything a lot easier for my search. People just don't put the right info when they are selling their machine. It's most of the time something like "industrial machine" or "heavy stitching machine" . They almost never mention what it can or can't do, type numbers, model, making year. Sellers also often think that It will stitch leather without a problem which it offen doesn't That makes it hard to buy second hand. Sorry i didn't react right away yesterday . I was already gone to bed. It's rise and shine around 4H30 ...

hi constabulary I was just looking for some more info on the pfaff. i'm currently looking on the blogspot "ucansew2.blogspot.be" . This guy tells almost the same as you do. Not reaaly good for upholstery but overall a very good machine. I still have trouble to identify a real triple feed machine from others. I guess I have some serious reading to do. continue my search tomorrow but will buy the pfaff anyway I think. I think it's worth more as you mentioned but it seems hard to find buyers. I currently don't have the space to store multople machines; Dilemma coming up..; I

hi guys, just a brief update. i found a local girl who has a pfaff 138-6 for sale; It misses a belt for the motor but otherwise looks very complete; it's got a lot of extra parts and orignal manual. She doesn't seem to know anything about it. So if it runs tomorrow i'll think i'll buy it. She was happy to sell it to me for 80 €; I think this is a good deal , what do you guys think. I think about cleaning and put oil in myself. I just hope that the belt is the only missing thing. she claims it works without a problem here are some pics

Went to see my grandfathers sewingmachine. This was really an old machine . It was a singer from over 50 years ago. he paid it around 17000 BEF back then. This is about 425€ . WOw life was already expensive back then. I think It's a Singer 29 leather boot patcher. Can't find type on it, it was getting dark and it was stored in a corner in his shed and covert in dust & spiderwebs; I told him i would fix her up some day and try to sell it for him because it was not what I hoped it was . Yesterday I got a call for the person whom I contacted through the internet . He told me that he had 3 machines still for sale , one A them would be ideal for me ( others are more for shoe patching as well) and he has also a lot of leather he wants to sell. I don't know if these are leftovers are useable big pieces. Anyway he want's 500€ for the machine, let's hope i can make a good deal for the leathers as well; Gonna check it out this saterday and will take some pictures of his collection. I'm not gonna buy right away, i got some other machines I first want to look at.

I'm an oldschool type of guy myself, i would love to have old machines to work with. I like the 50's and 60's and 70's , I have an 70 olds cutlass and love it and i listen to rock&roll more then the modern cr@p on the radio. I don't care about new expensive stuff, I just want good (if posible good) stuff. I currently looking at someone's add on the web. He seems to be a retired leather craftsman who sells everthing he's got. He has 3 o r 4 sewing machines for under 500€ /piece. He lives only about 10 miles from here so i'll try and talk to him today. i've learned quite a bit today thanks to all you guys cheers
