  3. Hey Rayban. Had a look at your site..Your belts are amazing... something to aspire too... What machine do you use for your stitching?..
  4. thanks for the feedback. Always room for improvement. Learning new things with every attempt.
  5. Thought I would have a go at replacing my existing belt. I used approx 5mm veg tanned skirting leather. Colour is Fiebings Antique Tan and finished with neatsfoot oil.
  6. Hey guys. Just started making a few things to start me off and this is my first weeks effort. Here are some photos of an Iphone case, slim wallet and business card case. I used 2mm & 1.6mm veg tanned. Stain is Fielbling's Antique Tan. I wanted to create items that looked aged so purposefully wasn't concerned with a perfect even finish. I am well aware of my little mistakes such as uneveness of the lettering etc.. I expect to make heaps of mistakes and learn from them... Apologise in advance of the poor photo quality. cheers
  7. Just bought this ' Original Stitching Horse' from Tandy Australia. It is advertised as ' durable Malaysian Oak' . When it arrived I was disappointed to find it is only made from cheap Radiata Pine. A softwood.
  8. This tool was part of a group of tool I bought from ebay. Can anyone tell me what it is etc... The shaft is square and has an entry point at top of shaft and exit on the point. cheers Frans
  9. me too please.
  10. Hi. In Australia and would consider a Saddle making course for the skillset. I have found that the saddle making courses here in Australia are ridiculously expensive. For example a 1 week course for $7,000 (includes materials) . Compare this to courses available in the US. A 5 week course incl accommodation for less $cost. I think I’d learn a lot more in 5 weeks than 1. Does anybody know of where to find a good course here in Australia. Cheers Frans
  11. Hey Tap. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I am currently bidding for some tools on ebay plus my partner has a Xmas surpise for me. Will wait until the new year and then purchase more tools & books. Greatly appreciate your offer for assistance. I just may give you a call in the new year.. all the best and have a great Xmas. cheers Frans
  12. Great looking seat. What type of foam/padding did you use. How did you shape the padding?..
  13. If you were making a number of moulded items could vacuum bagging be used to mould the leather over the forms. Personally I think it could work. Possibly the only problem I can foresee is the drying of the leather. I have vacuum bagging equipment that I use in fibreglassing. Cheers Frans
  14. Hey Benlilly1 and Caroline.. Thanks heaps for the replies and advice...
  15. Hi everyone... A newbie that is wanting to learn how to make motorcycle saddlebags initially and develop skills then try my hand at making seats. My longer term goal is to eventually start a business in motorcycle accessories. For now, where do I start... I don't have any tools etc.. This is where Im hoping some of you can point me in the right direction. Initially I assume is should learn hand stitching before venturing too far. What hand tools do I need, where to buy tools, leather etc... Books, DVD's? There doesn't appear to be many classes here in australia so maybe even a mentor. Would be great to make contact with someone that would be willing to give me a few pointers. cheers Frans
