  4. Howdy folks I'm selling this odd lot of stuff. I got most of the stuff i'm selling when I buy lots of tools just to get that one tool. So here is some odd bit and pieces. There's a couple of edgers and hole punches and a unmarked round knife and a couple of rivet setters. As you can see in the picture most of it looks pretty rough. The round knife is so dull you couldn't cut yourself if you tried. So it needs a good sharpening and a new handle wouldn't hurt it either. The two rivet setters are in nice condition and the bigger one is super heavy. The edgers I haven't tried so they might need sharpening the hole punchs punch alright. Take a good look at the picture and holler if you need anymore pictures or have questions. I'm looking to get $25.00+shipping for these tools. Thanks for looking, Mike

  7. Trox Thanks for the info. I took a look at the 227s and although they would do the job. I'm looking for a older machine preferably a treadle or hand crank. I'll take a look at some of the machines you mentioned. Did singer not make any older machines that might fit the bill. The 1245 I have is grey and it's a great machine I would just like a cyclinder arm. Thanks again, Mike
  8. Thanks Wiz I'll take a look at those. That sounds like it will suit my needs fine. Mike
  9. Steve Thanks for the reply. I was starting to think I pissed everyone off!!! I do like the 1245 it's a great machine. Not only do I use it for leather but I also repair my dept. bunker gear with it. I just think I'd be better served with a cyclinder arm machine. That way I could use a table if I needed too. Is the 335 the same machine just in the cyclinder arm. I'm pretty open to any machine though as long as it is a good machine and it will sew about the same parameters. I was hoping someone would know of a older singer or such that was treadle operated. Mike
  10. Howdy all I'm wanting to replace my 1245 with a cylinder arm machine. I'm not sure what would be a good replacement for it tho. What are your opinions I would like to find a old treadle cyclinder arm machine. I need it to sew the same range as the 1245 or maybe a lil lighter material. I have a pearson #6 for my heavy stuff and a singer 29k60 for the odd stuff. I'm in no big hurry I just want a idea in case I come across a deal. All advice is greatly appreciated. Mike
  11. Mooncusser Look in the braiding section. There's a sticky there on how to do a Turks head. That's what ya want to use to cover the end of your work Best of luck, Mike
  12. Harag Kangaroo is the best for lace. Pricey but well worth it. Mike
  13. If using skirting sometimes I'll get it wet. I then use my vise or a set of vise grips to set the snap down into the leather. It works good and really sets the snap into the leather. Mike
  14. If carving or stamping I use skirting/veg tan. I use wicket and craig. But you have to buy a side. If I only needed small amounts I'd call Springfield leather. You might be able to get a small amount of Herman oak which in my option is the best stuff out there. When I build mine I use 4 layers of 3-4oz for a total of around 12oz give or take a little. I don't do ant carving on mine. I build mine like the Conway shields. Except I don't use laser printing on vinyl for names or numbers. I cut them out of leather. If your gonna stamp or carve everything you could use one piece of 8/9oz and line it with a piece of 3/4oz. Or just use one piece of 12oz and don't line it. I like my finished shields to be about 12oz thick. That's just my preference it's not a rule. You'll just mess around with it and find out what you like. Best of luck, Mike
  15. Alex Welcome to the forum brotha! When I make shields I use Round knife Straight knife Contact adhesive Dye Edger Saddle soap and old jeans(for slicking edges) Sewing machine If you want to carve your #'s or letters or a design You'll also need Swivel knife Bevelers You can substitute some of the tools such as use a razor/box knife to cut your leather and you can hand stitch if you don't have a machine. I just started using oil based model car paint on radio straps I make. I was using a latex paint and it didn't hold up well. I'll have to see how the oil based paint holds up. I'm sure I missed some stuff and hopefully some others well jump in. Best of luck, Mike
  16. I bought a pearson #6 for $1600. After some cleaning and oiling it works great. What a dream to sew with. It will sew damn near a 1 1/4". The other day I sewed a 4oz piece and then around 36ozs and didn't have to adjust the tension! Needles are pricey but I don't think you'll break or bend many of the big bastards. My point is there's deals out there just keep looking. (I usually see the #6 go for 3500-4000)But you will have to spend more than 300 Mike
  17. I use a old draw gauge, round knife, and a striaght knife. I'm fixing to get a good hook knife for tight inside cuts. Mike
  18. Hi all I have a quick question. What is the difference between a 330 and a 331 needle. Is the length the same and what about the dia. Thanks, Mike
  19. Hi all I was wondering if anyone has made their own bobbins. I need a few for my #6 and if I can make them I would rather do that than pay 30 some bucks ea. for them. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated. Mike
  20. Hi all I'm looking for some #6 bobbins and a used shuttle and also any feet. I would also like to find used attachments such as roller guides and the rein rounder attachment. I know I can buy this stuff new. But I would rather buy stuff used and hopefully cheaper. So if you have any spares you wouldn't mind selling please let me know. Thank you, Mike
  21. Jwalker So you don't paint till after you seal with super sheen. And the paint adheres to the super sheen good. I may have to try that. It would solve the problem of the super sheen or in my case neat lac making the paint run sometimes. Right now I'm trying oil based car model paint. I'll see how it works. Mike
  22. Hi y'all probably getting tired of my ?s by now. But here goes will a landis #1 bobbin fit a pearson #6 Thanks, Mike
