This is my first customer's order! A guy wants me to do for him a cartridge ranger style belt and he told me his waist size is about 41,5 inches (105 cm). I am asking you guys any advice for what should be the overall size of the belt and the billets placements, if exist a formula or such, or maybe there's someone with the same waist size that could help me out. I made for myself a couple of belts and ranger style belts, but my jeans waist size is 32/33. Being my first order, I am a little bit nervous and I don't want to f...ck it up Any suggestion is more than welcome Cheers from Italy

Finally after 3 weeks of baby steps, I've accomplished this rig, a pecos slim mexican loop, pattern provided by Jim Simmons, and ranger stile belt (also the tongue and buckle billets are from one his pattern packs) lined with 36 bullet loops. (all hand stiched) The leather used for the holster and belt is 3mm and I've lined the gunbelt with 1,6 mm leather. I'm pretty satisfied about the result considering I've started leatherworking in late March of this year, I've tried (so hard) to keep the work as neat as possibe, but of course I still need to improve! So guys tell me what you think Thanks Cheers from Italy Bruno

Hi Blackcat, I ve started leatherworking some months ago and I remember having the same questions, and I can assure you, here you can find the answers you'are looking for... I've learned a lot from this forum and also watching a lot of tutorials on youtube. I make too western rigs and for what I I know metal lined holsters are for Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS), I don't know very much about metal lining and I'm willing to learn more, I'm sure someone will give you some suggestions. The leather recommended for gun leather is generally 8/9 oz leather, since I'm from Italy we have a different mesurament system, we use millimiters for leather so 8/9 oz is generally 3mm. Of course you can stitch by hand, the most common used method is saddlestitching, and there's plenty of tutorials here and demo on youtube. If you want to learn how to make great and functional western holsters, you have to read this guide by Jim Simmons is simply awesome and explains pretty much everything! http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19338 Here you can find also some great patterns for getting started on western holsters http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19714 I'll also send you a link you to a great video on making cartridges loops for belts Richard Black always explains the tools he uses and that you will need, I suggest you to watch all his videos, helped me big time with his tutorials.Hope it helped Cheers from Italy Bruno

Hi guys, I'm new into leatherworking and it has become very addictive to me I made for myself a couple of gunbelts, with cartridge loops stitched in the classic method, but since I've bumped in this picture, I ve decided from now to make my future gunbelts with that system too, but I'm wondering if it's just enough cut the slots on the belt and place trough them the leather designed for the loops. Of course you have to rivet both ends, and line the belt, to avoid possible damage to the loops, I'm also asking if this method durable and if is going to hold firmly the cartridges. Looks to me indeed a save-time system since you don't have to stitch every single cartridge loop placement. Thanks in advance for any suggestion and advice. Cheers from Italy Bruno

I finished the holster a few days ago, I've started the gunbelt and I am about to line it, here's a pic of my work in progress, as soon it's finished I ll post the pics of the complete rig in the gunleather forum discussion area. Jim thank you again for all the patterns provided, those patterns of yours helped me big time Cheers from Italy.
