Good job, looks like it will get the job done to me.

Here is a close up of one of the buttons with the problem. I think I understand how to fix it now. I cut off the buttons last night but didn't have time to start the buttons yet. badbutton by ss1442, on Flickr

:clapping: Your stuff always looks great.

Nope not even close, on one of the big buttons the run pattern has several spots where it is wrong like U1O1U1 where it should be u3. The other big button got a little bunched on one side so it has some gaps on the other side. Won't be the first knot I have cut off something and retied. Sure is tempting to just use it but it would bug me everytime I looked at it. I am sure it won't be the last one I cut off either.

Yea a different color certainly helps. I played with 3 colors of paracord last night. A color each for the foundation, 1st interweave and 2nd interweave. I think I found where I was going wrong before you have to cross over the 1st interweave when you turn back or you are on the wrong side to properly split the pairs. Now I guess I'll have to cut off the buttons and give it another go. Here is a picture of the hobbles with the screwed up buttons, they don't really look to bad from a distance or if you don't know what you are looking for. IMG_3552 by ss1442, on Flickr

Finished up my hobbles last night, well sort of. I screwed up the second interweave on the big buttons, so I guess it is time to cut them off and start over. Anyone else have trouble keeping track of the right path for the second or third interweaves? I think before I try again I'll practice some with paracord to try to get it down better. Anyone got any suggestions to help me keep track of those interweaves?

Yea that is the way I am leaning now too. I don't make stuff to look at.

I am working on a set of hobbles. Eight plait bodies. How do most of you put the big button on where the ends come together? I am thinking of a) going from two eight plait to one 16 and put a 4 strand ring knot threw the braid tape or tie 12 inner strands together and use 4 outer strands to make a ring knot. c) do like you would for a heel knot bringing the strands together and wrapping the strands around the ring knot. How do/have you guys done it?

Go fast button? I thought that was the "Leter Buck" button!

Looks great as always. I may have to make another quirt sometime in the not too distant future. Next up I am going to give some hobbles a try and I asked Bill C to find me a good hide for a reata.

Yea I would sure be working for nothing at $35 with that small of string. Boy they sure do look nice though.

I hope it is tight enough. This string was rather thick and not the easiest to work with also the ends of the strings make some parts of it looks like there is a lot of space where there isn't really any. I used 4 strands for the ring knot so you have 4 ends. Since there could be a QC problem maybe I should keep this one and try it out myself.

Those look great!

Here is a thread with some training hobbles I made from a cotton lead rope. http://leatherworker...=1

The braiding looks pretty good. I don't completely understand what you are describing about where the ends come together. If they are just taped together and then the button put on I would worry about it coming off. You want the hobbles long enough that the horse can stand square but not so long that they can still walk real easy. I have heard that if they are too short the horses learn to hope real good in them. The other thing to consider is that paracord might get a bit hot with friction so I don't think I'd use this set on a horse that isn't already hobble broke. Mike
