That one was a hit on Facebook.

The main braid is 12 strand Trenza Patria of 1/16 string. I started with 6 strand round for the loop, transitioned to Trenza Patria then to 3 round 4 strand.

Not the best picture. I can't really see what the pattern on top looks like. Is it this one? http://www.frayedknotarts.com/tutorials/topbraid.html

The thing I try to get to is not caring about the over under as such. I want to learn the pattern so looking at the knot tells me how many over or under. It is way hard to learn all of the progressions of how many over and under. On the other hand once you learn what you are looking for / at you can tell where to go. Does that make sense. Oh and if you can tie the 7/6 knot you have already tied a 5/4 one. You just do another set of passes to move it up from 4 bight to 6. Good luck those videos look like they cover what you want. Now if you can follow them you will be set.
-
Your best bet might be to tie another one 4 bight with paracord and practice interweaving that until the pattern of it starts to click. After you start seeing the pattern of how to do it making it bigger is just doing more of the same.

Nice! I like the Santa Ynez style because it helps keep the size of the wad in your hand smaller when roping. Seventy feet of reata make the wad plenty big all by it's self.

I was working on a body for a bosalitta last night when the wife calls me down to eat. I forget to close the door to my workshop and go to eat. Dang dog eat the ends of the strings. Guess I get to cut more string and start over. :ranting2: :ranting2:

I've done it with 2 before by using one to tie the base turks head and then using the second string for the next pass (interweave).

Brian, Did it crash or are you just upgrading? Sure hope you can get Bud's tutorials back online. His tutorials have helped me a great deal. He had a gift for taking step by step pictures that actually helped you understand what to do. Mike

Is this the one you want

I might hit the gear show again, but at the moment I tending to not. I like the ones that have me in the saddle better.

anyone going to the Buck Brannaman Roping in Santa Ynez this weekend (Oct 25-27 2013)? Should be lots of reatas, bosals and romals in evidence. I am 5th out in arena 1. http://www.brannaman.com/roping/index.html

Got a letter in the mail the other day letting me know that Tejas was getting out to the rawhide business. Sounds like Bill is going to retire.

Nice work like always!

Any of you guys going to Buck Brannaman's roping in Santa Ynez later this month?

I generally use another knot under for a foundation. That 4 strand ring knot with two strands pushed through the braid works great for a foundation that isn't ever going to slide. I learned that trick from Nate Wald (http://www.natewald.com/). There is a thread on here somewhere where I show how to do it.
-
Isn't this what you are trying to get too moto_0019.jpg by ss1442, on Flickr It is the same knot as the video you posted.
-
Yes, it should work about the same with 6 strands but it will make it a little harder. You could leave 2 strands in the middle and tie the ring with 4. Have you seen this thread on the same topic http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=49349&hl=terminal#entry313523 ?

Nice work indeed. Man it that a lot of buttons. Are those cartridges at the rein ends? How are they attached?
