And if you do repairs.".Any item left after 30 days of notification of completion, will be disposed of at my discretion." Didn't have that one up and now have a saddle setting in shop since last April that I'm told I have to hang on to for another 4 months...Ya live and Ya learn.

Figuring Gun Belt Length
justken replied to justken's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks everyone! This customer is about 2200 miles from me.Thay are looking at getting him a late 1800's style cartridge belt. He'll be carrying a 45lc ruger.SASS kind of rig.Was hopeing there was a quick and easy formula. In past have always been able to have folks measure themselves, but this is(was) going to be a surprise for him.Just adding a couple of inches seems kind of hit-miss.Don't help not knowing how low he'll be carrying.Think I'll end up telling them I have to have him measured. Thanks again...Ken Smith -

No makers marks on this one.All brass hardware.I'm guessing it's a Ted Flowers, but did he make brass ones?Do know this though, the monel and silver ones are a heck of a lot easier to polish up than this brass one was.Customer has this one for sale.Is complete with breast collar, bridle and britchen along with everything in photos.PM me for contact info if interested.

Had a customer call me today asking if a saddle could be built using bison leather. Does anyone make skirting leather out of bison? If so,how well does it tool?

Thanks everyone! A lot of what I make are keepsake pieces.I traided Mike and Cindy Beaver for the core of this one a while back and just got around to finishing it.

Hello, If your asking about the inlay in Timd's card,it's hitched horsehair.I used 6 hair pulls to get it small enough to fit.Your welcome Timd,it was fun to make! When's the next one?lol Ken Smith(justken) -
I'm game, count me in also. Can we put in inlays?

Don't know how many hitchers we have on here, but if you get in a bind, give me a holler and i'll try to help you figure it out.

Hello! There are several good books out there now.First one I'd point people to is Clay Cristenson's "HOW TO HITCH HORSEHAIR"(Weaver Leather has it). Shoni Maulding's "HITCHED HORSEHAIR". Hitching Post Supply sells both and a couple others also.Thay also sell bulk horsehair.

I'll give you a call friday and your more than welcome to stop by at any time.

Hi Ryano, I work in Stocker, probly hasn't changed very much. Only reason I'm thinking about parting with 97-10 is I've been having problems finding needles for it.I learned to sew on it about 30 years ago and it's still the first machine I turn to.Everytime I'm up to Weaver's I keep looking at their Adlers and think I could probly replace the 97-10 and 144 both with one machine.

Hi all! I've been thinking about upgradeing and replaceing my Singer 97-10. It's all original, has wax pot and everything but a bobbin winder. I use this machine every day on everything from 6 oz and up. Don't see many around and am wondering what thay are worth these days. Know there was one on Cregslist a while back that thay were asking something like 8,000 for, but don't know if it ever sold or not. That seems a bit on the high side to me,but i'd let it go for that. Thanks for any info....Just Ken

Hi All! Came up with a slick way to sew through sheepskin/wool. I had taken a slightly bent sewing machine needle out of my 97-10 and put it into a awl haft. When you run it through from top down, you stick your bottom sewing needle into groove. When you pull machine needle out, the sewing needle will come right with it.Works really slick,I can sew just about as fast as with plain leather. No more hunting bottom holes. There are probly a lot more ways of doing this, but this has worked the best for me so far.Hope this helps..Ken

Ted Flower saddles
justken replied to justken's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
Thought I'd added a reply but must have hit the wrong button... This saddle is a 14' youth, all the pieces are there(other than the missing silver)It's all original except the bit which is a cheep aluminum one.Only really bad thing is that someone cut the fenders down on it. Stright line cut and about what looks like 3"-4" off. I'll try to post some pictures on monday. I have the slowest dial up in the world at the house and am not sappost to load anything on these puters here at work. The tooling looks nice but it's not super fancy. I'll be giving Loon Creek Leather a call on monday. Their web site shows the triangle conchos that I'm needing. Thought I'd lost my posting..but thay are there now..sorry...Some day I'll learn how to drive these durn things...
