Thank you all for the great advice, patience is what I need. And I love the tip on warming it up and using an applicator.

Renia, is that easy to come by? and Tom, I hear you on the 2 coats... the first coat seemed to disappear into the leather I am using now.

Thank you both for responding. You might be right about the "freezing" on the Barge's I did have it in storage in Canada for a while. I think that can is a goner. I just performed a burnishing test with the Weldwood and it burnished fine, and has nice flexibility. But it does peel apart with very little effort. I let it set up for a good 20-30 minutes, seemed dry to the touch. I then clamped it for a couple hours, then beveled and burnished, Looks good. Still concerned about it seperating. Wondering if the high humidity and heat here right now is warrenting a longer dry time? Thanks again for your thinning tip. I do love the consistency of the Weldwood, easy to work with!

I am sure this has been discussed in detail before, but I am having issues with the contact cement I am using and would like some help from the pro's. I was using Barge's Tanners Bond from Tandy. Lately I've noticed it has turned very thick and stretchy, so I assumed the shelf life on it has expired. Too much open air maybe.... it has sticking power but won't seem to hold the two layers of leather together, they are seperating after burnishing. So I purchased DAP's Weldwood contact cement. But I am finding that after letting is set up properly, glueing and clamping... the next day I can pull the layers apart, I have not tried to burnish yet, that trial is setting up as I type. Any success stories would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Welcome Aaron! Hello From Texas! You sound like a very busy guy, that last year of University can be a tough one. Leather work can both cause and reduce stress. hahah Can't wait to see some photos. Julie

Eccho, The stainless is from a company called K and S engineering. .013" I also bought copper, but haven't played with that yet. I bought it at a hobby shop. I think it was designed for punch art?? I just cut it with Airplane grade snips, glued it to my oval block and then after gluing I belt sanded it smooth to the edge of the block. I used a foam brush to layer on some satin lacquer, and NO bubbles. Yeah! haha I have two nice ovals left in stained wood, but I can't seem to find a leather dye to compliment yet. BUT I WILl. Hey I just checked out your site, NICE STUFF. I was born in Stratford ON. Where are you from? I saw Lucan on your site.

Well Thank you very much. Just checked out your site, the holsers are excellent. I just may need to order one of those. Will I see you at Tandy ever? Or are you getting your leather on a bigger scale? I just recently molder some leather over a Colt 45. Just capturing a 1/2" profile. Thinking of making a patch from it and putting in on the back of a biker vest. I can't believe how much detail can come through on the leather. Julie

Yeah, I cut out wooden ovals then glued on a stainless thin sheet of metal, trimmed, the steel, sanded them with a scotchbrite pad, then clear coated them, I was amazed how close it came to looking like a brushed aluminum. I was thinking mirror might have been cool, but the fingerprints would have drove me crazy. Thanks for the compliment.

Glad to finally be a part of my first forum. I was having all kinds of trouble with Resolene, and found the answers to my troubles right here at leatherworker.net. THANK YOU to everyone who takes the time to help people like me try to build skills. I am an expat living now in the land of cowboys, leather and sunshine, and I am loving it. I graduated from Fashion Design, (many many) years ago, so the sewing and pattern making comes easy for me, but the edging and finishing is all new. Thanks in advance for all the information and advice you are about to give me! Julie.

Great Belt, be patient it takes time. I joined ETSY in November I've had 1210 views, 70 Favs but only 5 sales. I agree that the traffic seems to increase with the more items you list on there. https://www.etsy.com/shop/SplitrailLeather?ref=hdr_shop_menu Good Luck
