  1. I got some better pictures outside the other day of it, just hadn't had time to upload any of how it looks. Pkay, I have to say until the other day, I'd never seen it or even knew she had it.
  2. I appreciate the advise. Turned out to have a granite shop not far from me. Got a (larger than expected piece) to work with, so I shall be able to make better marks and rivet better now I hope. Thank you.
  3. While I've worked on a few things, to try my hand. I'm certainly not an expert on subject leather in general, and certainly on this in particular. My Mother gave me an old, read that as "Vintage" [probably as old, or older than myself] leather purse, to clean up for her. Inside it says "Genuine Leather Made in Mexico". She's most concerned with any cleaning of the exterior changing the color of the purse. At present, the items I have that pertain to leather are Kiwi Leather conditioner (paste), and Kiwi Saddle Soap (paste). I know the Kiwi Conditioner changed the color of an old leather magnifying slip case I had after I applied it. What's the best way for me to proceed?
  4. I admit, I do not have all the "right equipment" (certain tools, for example no skivers, edgers, etc) as yet. As I (mentally) predicted, the stitching came out of the bottom of the cell phone carry strap, as I had not doubled it. I may just slit the back and continue to use it to carry the cell, as I do prefer my Vertical to the horizontal (cloth) Condor pouch. A version 2.0 will be made down the road when I can get some other (non-leather) projects aside. Thank you all.
  5. So, here is my "first" creations - The first "slip" wallet/credit card" in all it's ugly glory. Two pieces of white leather hand sewn with the smooth side in. Two Key fobs I cut out of some scrap leather, using a fob as a template. A, plain, simple 3/4" strip of leather as my personal Key fob. I went back to the "slip" wallet/credit card thing, but messed up one, which turned into a IWB magazine pouch. I had problems with a horizontal-riding fabric "Condor" brand cell phone case, so I built one that rides verticle. Note, I would have preferred to have "wet molded" the outer part, but as it was, this was a day project & the cell had to stay "on" some. And another "slip" wallet/credit card thing.
  6. Nice looking holder. I agree on the clip design, they can be prone to "popping" off a belt.
  7. You did a good job. Get ready to make them something for next year! (Horses like to eat a bit LOL)
  8. Recently decided to give some Leather working a try. After years (ok . . . Decades) of looking at some great looking leather works (partial to stuff like rifle ammo cuffs and the like) that I'd like to try and see what kinda fun/trouble I could get into with this stuff. A couple of things kinda sparked this. The magazine "The Backwoodsman" has all kinds of articles and last year, had one where a fellow made a butt cuff with shell holder for his shotgun. Since I recently purchased a leather butt cuff w/ ammo for a .30-30 and a rather pesky horizontal Condor-brand case just would not hold my cell phone like I wanted, it seemed it was time to take things into my own hands. Making some mistakes, learning from them all.
