rookie

I am making a gun case for my rifle. I have everything done but the handles. This is the style of case I am making, only out of leather. I am in need of some tutalige on making the leather handles. Can anyone help me?

Thank you Skip. There is a saddle maker here in town, I think I will take it by there and see what they say first. I have done some leather work, I have made chinks, a purse and a few odds and end things. The saddle is in decent shape, I thought trying my hand on this saddle first because of cost. I ended up with the saddle for free. My thinking was I have a tree and the templates for the leather. I don't ride this saddle so I will not be out anything. This saddle has been in the tack room for 10 years collecting dust. Are there a lot of gremlins when trying to build a saddle from an existing saddle?

I have a saddle that was given to me. It is a run of the mill Quarter Horse pleasure saddle. I was wondering if it is worth my time taking it apart and rebuilding it to my liken'. I have done some tooling and would like to attempt to make a saddle. Is it worth my time doing it in this fashion? I was going to use the leather from the old saddle as templates for the new leathers.

Ok guys I am going to post a pic of my first project. This is the project which caused my wife's purse. I made this for myself. I told her I wish I could think of something else to make and she said "make me a purse" So here it is.

Tom- Thank you for the pointer. I am going to try it on my next project. Thanks Crystal, I had to hand stitch it. I am thinking of investing in a sewing machine if I end up doing more leather work. Twin Oaks- I will make sure to keep the next one on the down low. You could always tell your wife that I used the last cow with this pattern...ha ha.

mickey- I followed the instrucions in the sheridan style book I have on the finish. Neatsfoot first, neatlac 2nd, antique 3rd then finally tan kote.

I was wondering what I problems I might run into tooling the lighter ounce leather? Does anyone one have any suggestions or tips? I have only tooled the heavier ounce leathers.

Hey everyone, I have a friend ask me to make a guitar strap for him. I have never made one, I am in need for a template or a little guidance. I have made holsters, spur straps, belts and purse, but this one has me at a loss. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I saw some glass and hardwood leather slickers in Wickenburg at the show. I should have bought one there when I saw it. I was wondering who has them available via the internet. I tried Montana Leather site and did not see any, can anyone help me?
