I was under the impression that the sante fe had the cut outs on the seat. If I as for a 5" seat with out the cut outs, I am assuming I will get what I want. Is that correct?

Well I am starting to get my ducks in a row. I am wanting to build a saddle. I am in the info stage right now. I have found a saddle that I would like to build. The only problem is I don't know what tree the saddle is built on. I am planning on having my tree built by Timberline, brfore I call Timberline and sound like a Gunsel, I was hoping someone could help me identify the tree. The saddle in the picture is from a catalog from Bridger Creek Outfitters in Bozman MT. This catalog is from the 80's. I tried contacting Briger Creek, no longer around. Any help will be appreciated. -Justin

The hook does make a complete revolution, and I retrived the entire broken needle. It seems like the needle on the down stroke is not in time with the hook on the bottom. Not real sure, but that is what it looks like to me.

Yes I did. I have a servo motor, will that make a difference? Is the safety clutch on the sewing machine or on the motor? I am new to this machine, please bear with me.

I was wondering what the overall finished measurements of a saddle are to what the tree measures? IE. If you have a 10" swell and a 15" seat what will the finished measurement be. I am interesed in making a sadlle and I am looking at the different trees and measurements, I want to make sure I get the right dimensions before I start. -Rookie

Neatlac Replacement
rookie replied to rickeyfro's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I saw a post on a woodworkers forum that mentioned Zinsser Quick 15 as a replacement for Neat Lac. I have not tried it yet. I was wondering if anyone has heard this before. I am going to try it, I just need to go get the stuff. -
I have only made a handful of things. I have only been doing leather work regularly for about a year. Before that I had only made a couple of belts for myself. So when i joined LW I thought I would label my experience.

I just found a website that has a plethora of belt buckles. If any one is looking for odd buckles this place might be what you are looking for. www.hotbuckles.com

First went over the leather with deglazer. Then I dyed the background, mixed a couple of fiebings dyes to get the color I wanted. I then put a light coat of neatsfoot oil. After the neatsfoot dryed I applied neat lac with a sheapswool, two light coats. I then went over the entire strap with an antique paste (fiebings) I only tried to get into the cuts. After that dried I airbrushed on two coats of acrylic resolene.

Just finished a guitar strap for a friend. I have never made a guitar strap so we'll see how it works.

The are called kaibab moccasins. I talked to a Navajo friend of mine yesterday and he is going to try and make a pattern and instructions. I will post them when I get them.

I was at Barnes and Noble the other night, and found the Navajo Moccasin pattern you are looking for. I was in the section of books that had Native American Indian books. I don't remember the name of the book, but I know there is one out there. If I get a chance I will go back and see if I can get the name of the book for you.

Belt for Me
rookie replied to rookie's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Black Background, oxblood on flowers with a black antique cream over the top. I burnished the edge then sealed it before I started. I mixed a couple of drops of black dye with the oxblood, just to darken it up a little. On certain parts of the tooling I stained heavier to get some depth into the belt. -
I have had these boots for many years and I would wear a black belt with them. I decided to make a belt that matches the boots better.

Who wants to win this TROPHY BUCKLE ?
rookie replied to Casey Jordan's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Hello Casey, I am not trying to start a fight or cause trouble. I was wondering why you don't include custom hat makers. Would that catagory fit into the associations boundries? Just curious... -
Tahnk you all for your help.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a reliable source for frog skins? I am going to use them as inserts for my leather projects.

I was wondering if any one had blueprints for a stitching horse. I was wanting to build my own, I was hoping some one had dimensions they wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks

Thank you Mike. I think I have a good idea of what you are telling me.
