  1. From the album: First Leather Projects

These are also made from deerskin remnants. They have been "frankensteined" because I ran out of large pieces and so had to put a bunch of smaller ones together.
  2. From the album: First Leather Projects

I screwed up on the placement of the snap so I had to put a second one. It took several changes to finally get something I was happy with. This one I am not.
  3. From the album: First Leather Projects

I had to play around with the key arrangement and actually had to sand down the plastic on my car keys to make it flat. Here is the final product that I am extremely happy with.
  4. From the album: First Leather Projects

    kyahan blank cut and ready
  5. From the album: First Leather Projects

I traced the kanji on the front and tried my hand at pyrography. It didn't turn out the way I wanted but not too bad for my first attempt.
  6. From the album: First Leather Projects

Here is one finished kyahan (shin covering). I used paracord and eyelets in the back to lace it up securely to my leg.
  7. From the album: First Leather Projects

    added the uppers
  8. From the album: First Leather Projects

I am experimenting with the straps and d rings to see which one I prefer and the durability. I also came up with a third idea that I think would work better, unfortunately it was after the fact.
  9. From the album: First Leather Projects

I followed a basic tutorial on making mocassins I found on youtube then modified it to make it split toed. Here's the bottom. This is made from some deerskin remnants I got from Tandy Leather.
  10. Ok I've run into technical difficulties! I haven't figured out how to work this site. I will post more pictures just as soon as I figure out what I'm doing! I may have to start a thread for each new item.
  11. Hello All! I am new to leather crafting but I have fallen in love with it! I have a gazillion projects in mind but here are the first few projects I completed. Please help me become better with any tips, critiques, or thoughts you might have! I study Budo Taijutsu and so I made these for myself to replace my worn out items: Japanese Tabi (split toed boots) Kyahan (basically like shin guards and to cover the pant legs) It looks like I will have to add the other projects as replies because I hit the limit.
  12. Hello Everyone! I just picked up crafting as a hobby and have intensely fallen in love with it. I have a lot of projects in mind but the one I'm about to work on is a knife sheath. I have been watching some videos on wet forming the sheath and I really like it. I did however also want to practice with tooling but I'm not sure if or when I can do that with wet forming. Is it possible to tool a knife sheath and wet form it? If so how would I go about that? Thank you, Chief
