  1. Dwight, I tried to PM you, but it is denied. Any way to contact?
  2. Is there any preference in the aluminum machines or the cast ones? Is there a difference in price, or performance? Just looking at used machines, and didn't know. Thank you guys for any help you may be able to give, Josh
  3. Or I guess if I was going for a 2 tone look. I could just leave it natural, and not worry about colors matching or not.
  4. It's hard to burnish oil tanned, and dyes don't usually match, in my experience in trying to do that. Those are my patterns, that I came up with, through trial and error.
  5. I'm not sure I understand. They are for skeet/sproting clays shooting. You just pour the shells into the top of them. there is no closure. Here is a top pic.
  6. So I made a couple of shell pouches to sell, but wound up keeping the stingray bag. Bag number one, is a brown oil tanned, with a stingray front, and lined with 8oz. bullhide on the front and back panels. Bag number 2 is a latigo leather, with a cayman belly front, lined with a high end 4oz. veg tanned. Let me know what you guys think of my work. Take care, Josh.
  7. Where is the best place to get it here in the US? I have used some and like it better than Tandy for sure. What else compares/where do you get it? Thanks for the input guys.
  8. Pm sent. Please let me know.
  9. How decent are these machines? How big of thread/needles can you go on one? Is the quality of the stitching good? Sorry for so many questions, just not real up to speed on them. Thanks, Josh
  10. Sorry I posted this in the other sewing section. So I am thinking about getting a machine. How is the 3200 thought of? I will be sewing mostly oil tanned, with some veg and latigo. All told, less than 20 oz. for the majority. I would love to hear some opinions, prior to making a mistake. Where is the best place to order, and what can I expect to pay, with shipping and all? Thanks for the help, Josh

  12. Very nice. I just did a bag with some croc backstrap/armor this week, and it royally sucked. Good job on using the pattern of the gator. That seems like a difficult time for me, during layout.
  13. Please tell me more about it! Is it fairly tough stuff (heavier thread)? Does it wear well? How is it compared to nylon? Sorry for so many questions, Just trying to learn a little from you guys. Thanks in advance, Josh
  14. Here is a new pouch I made for a friend of mine. It is 6 oz. Latigo/6 oz. black oil tanned. It is the same size as the other round one I made, minus the basket weave front.

    New Maul

I just ordered/received a 2 lb.poly maul from Wrising ind. Seems pretty well made, and fairly priced. Anybody else own one? Thinking about getting a heavier rawhide one. What are some of the advantages of a rawhide vs. poly?
  16. Rohn, on my basket weave on these, I wanted it a bit bigger, so it "fit" the look. Instead of overlapping them, I did them end to end, to make it appear bigger.
  17. Are they a preferred supplier? Are they good to deal with? They seem to have a good selection of heavy duty tools. Thanks guys. Josh
  18. Old tool, the bullhide bag will hold about 3 boxes loose. The round one will hold about 2 1/2 boxes loose. They are pretty good sized bags. Are you talking about the top seam, or the front rolled edge? Here is what I have for the inside. The bullhide, is sewn with the divider inside. The round bag, is done differently. I sewed a panel w/ gusset, and a panel with a gusset, and sewed those two, to the divider. Sort of a clamshell, if that makes sense. The round one, has a LOT of stitching, all done by hand, but is a stouter bag. The top trim is the last piece I sew, other than the belt loop.
  19. So thanks to a lot of help from you guys here, and a lot of mistakes along the way, I am getting fairly decent hopefully at my leather work. These are shell pouches for shotgun shooting. Let me know what you guys think. Veg tanned front, with bullhide. Latigo with Caiman belly. Veg tanned front with a heavy 7 Oz. black oil tanned.
  20. That has a stupid level of talent involved!!! I'm with Tboyce, I suck at life in comparison.
  21. So more specifically I guess, what is the noticable fifference in Chromexel, and oil tanned? Are they pretty well interchangeable? Will the Chromexel still feel "oily"?
  22. I am only a couple of months deep, but learning fast. I am building mostly shotgun shell pouches, but have made a couple of belts as well. So far, I have used some veg-tan, and have ordered some Oil from the Leather Guy. My question is with Chrome tanned. What is it for? Does it sew/act like oil? Does it have some property that makes it more suited for something? Is it as good as Oil? Sorry for so many questions! Thanks in advance for the help. Josh
