  1. Thank you guys for all the input. I have ordered from him, and just ordered again. He has some good stuff, and is a really good guy. Thanks again. Josh
  2. Who makes the largest basketweave tool? I just have a bigger area, and want to not spend forever stamping. Thanks, Josh
  3. Damn that is some nice work!!!! Wow! Now I have something to aspire to.....a long time from now.
  4. Hey Oldhat, no need to be sorry! I only asked Art, because he mentioned them. Thank you for letting me know, I will be sure to pick some up, and give them a try, along with the Tiger.
  5. Thanks guys for the ideas. I have read about Tiger, and am going to call Rocky mt. and order some. Art, are the John James needles really good? Will I notice a difference? Thanks again guys, I really appreciate it.
  6. Here is my problem. I am dying the front of a shotgun shell pouch. I don't want black dye all over the rest of it, which will be oil tanned. I may or may not be able to NFO it really well, and make it a bit more pliable. I am just needing to roll the edges, to make the seam line line up right. Does this make any sense? Or have I seriously confused this all?
  7. No I am not putting any image on it. I am going to basket weave it actually. I then want to dye the natural veg black. I need to water form the veg, on the edges, so it all fits. Can I do this after I dye it? In other words, will the dye affect the ability to take water, or discolor it? Sorry if I was confusing. Thanks again, Josh
  8. I am a newb, but learning faily quick. One thing I am really confused on, is therad. I am hand stitching, oil and veg, from 4-10 oz. I have been using some waxed cord from Tandy, and really like it, but have used some of the standard waxed from them as well. What kind of thread does everybody use? There are endless sizes, and types. I guess waxed is the way to go. But is nylon the best? What else is there? I also see sizes 207, 415, and 554. Where are you guys getting your thread at? I apologize in advance for all the questions, but appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Josh
  9. I am making a pouch. I am going to use black oil tanned, and a 6/7 oz. veg tanned front. I am going to tool the front as well. The question I have is; I really need to sew it, and then water form. Can I still water form after dying, but obviously before oiling it? I really don't want to have to try and dye it when it's put together. The order of this has me wondering. Thanks for the help guys, Josh
  10. Light bleach and water? Maybe mist on with a sprayer, and let sit for a couple min? Will probly need to saddle soap and oil soon after of course.
  11. Great work. What is a forager pouch used for?
  12. How do you thin the edge of a gusset, that is say 25" or so? I am wanting to thin something like 5-7 Oz. Latigo, Veg, or Oil, so I can make a rolled edge. Thanks for the help guys, Josh
  13. So I am new, and maybe wanting to try a bag like this. Can somebody please tell me what the welts are for? Why use them? Are the functional or decorative? Thank you guys for all of the help. Josh
  14. Jonasbo, very nice work! What leather did you use? Style and weight wise? Thanks, Josh
  15. I was looking online, and The Leather guy seems to have a lot of stuff, reasonably priced. Is he legit? Are his products legit? I am not lining the interior of a Ferrarri, but making shotgun pouches, or at least faling miserably, while not making progress. So while I don't want trash, they don't have to be perfect either. Thanks for the help guys, God knows I need it. Josh
  16. It won't let me post pics, but here is a link to the pouch in question. Sorry for the trouble, I hope somebody can help me out. The small pouch, not the bag. shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=203112
  17. So I am a complete new guy to this. I shoot a lot, and wanted to build some shotgun shell pouches. I am having a heck of a time, trying to figure out patterns, that look so easy, but are not. Man I have a new respect for my mom, and how easy she made sewing look when we were kids! So here is a link to a pouch I am looking at making. My stitching is getting pretty decent, but my patterns are not so hot. Here is the question: what will this gusset look like? I have figured out, that a straight strip, does not work very well at all. Sorry for all the questions, but I am beyond frustrated. I am usually pretty good at detail stuff, but this....this sucks. Thanks for the help guys, Josh
  18. Hey guys, I am a new guy here, and new to leather as well. I have a question about finishing leather. I am building a pouch for shotgun shells. I am using veg tanned leather, and would like to keep it natural finish, and let wear darken it. I have tried neetsfoot oil on sample pieces, and it darkens it quite a bit. How can I keep it natural, but also protect the leather? Thanks for the insight guys, Josh
