  1. Looks like scaring of some kind that you usually see on very low grade imported hides. If you want better leather consider Wickett & Craig. Even their lowest grade would be much better.
  2. Contact cement the edges to hold everything in place and then machine stitch.
  3. If its not the same leather, what does Wickett & Craig do to make it so special and more expensive? The whole "drop ship" thing is what I don't understand. Instead of promoting Siegel Fine Leathers and shipping from your own location, it appears that your just a salesman for Wickett & Craig which is not a bad thing at all.
  4. It appears he's not giving up just yet but I don't understand why he expects anyone will order leather from him when it has to be drop shipped from another source. Just call Glen Prout direct at 800-TANNERY and order 1 or 100 sides direct.
  5. Greetings from Siegel of Caliofnria, Inc Contact Information: siegel.leather@gmail.com (emails are checked every hour) After 84Years of servicing the leather trade, Siegel of California is closing it’s doors effective 3/2/11. This has been an incredibly difficult decision prompted by both personal and economic strains. My recent stay in the hospital shows just what a toll this has all taken on me. I need to find a different avenue to use my skills and knowledge that I have built through my 60 years of life. Thus I will be starting a new relationship soon where I can better serve my customers. My customers have been the heart of my business and I look forward to a continuing relationship with them. I look forward to this new relationship where I will be able to have a more focused approach and leave behind the day to day intricacies of managing employees. For Example: Our California Double Tanned Skirting, recognized by many as the nicest skirting on the market will still be available, produced the same way per our exclusive arrangement with Wickett & Craig at $159.00/side. For now, it would be best to email me with any orders as I will still be intricately involved in the leather's standards. The leather will be shipped from Wickett in PA, but our company has developed standards for selection which we will be communicating to Wickett. You will be hearing more about this from me soon so watch your inbox! I owe thanks to all of my loyal customers who have stood by us for the last 84 years. With Warmest Wishes, Steven Siegel, CEO Siegel of California, Inc siegel.leather@gmail.com s.siegel@siegelofca.com
  6. If your interested in earning some extra money and can do this quality of work or better, please contact me.
  7. Weldwood original in the red and yellow can from Home Depot or Lowes.....will do anything that Barge does at half the price. The only people that might not agree with are the ones with a shelf-full of Barge that they need to use up.
  8. This is a case made for one of my customers in Michigan and one of the first cases complemented by Redding tooling. The diamond inlays are elephant/lizard.
  9. Brittany is one of Canada's up and coming pool players.
  10. Hi Greg, Remember when you did my first web site???
  11. Here is one of the latest cases made for a collector in Harrison, TN.
  12. Hi Elton, Trust me, it's not the lighting, it's camera shake, due to slow shutter speed. Set the camera on a solid surface and do a self timed shot. Also make sure the lens is clean. If it's still blurry, you need a new camera. Your work deserves much better than what shows in your photos. Don't think I am trying to bug you.....just trying to help.
  13. Might I suggest you invest in a tripod or at least try holding the camera still while taking the pic. It's a shame something this nice is displayed as a blur. Also the background really detracts from the piece. Take it outside. JMO.
  14. Your going to have this party by yourself if you think I'm getting into the mud with these hombreys.
  15. Take the gloves off, and let 'er rip - (I know the saddlemakers see plenty - I had posted a pic earlier of detail on a saddlehorn, and I'd inadvertently flipped the thing around to get the best 'look', and forgot to check it out myself - the wrap was 'wrapped backwards' in the pic, but not on the real thing! Keith asked the question that all the saddlemakers that noticed it were wanting to but didn't - so now I make a note to check this as well when I save edited pix!) Wow, you sure have a lot to say just to answer one question. Just kiddiing with you! I'm sure if you post your pics in the Critique section, you will get what your asking for. Which is not a bad thing at all, if that's what your looking for. I liked your comment about the wine....many so called wine experts couldn't tell the difference between cheap or expensive in a blind test expecially after having a few taste....
  16. Thanks for you comments. I posted the pic the "show off" section to do just that. If I wanted advice or comments on the case, I would have posted in the "Critique my work" section. I did this one other time and all it got was nit picking. I have tried serveral other top toolers who post here and none come close to Ron Ross in my opinion. I would be more than happy to receive samples of your best work and if it looks good to my eyes, we could do a test case.
  17. Hi Pete, Mr. Ron Ross, one of the best carvers in the country....IMO. Your not so bad either but you didn't seem interested in working with me...no hard feelings though.
  18. I used stingray on one case and swore I would never use it again.....broke too many needles.
  19. Below is a case I just finished for one of my customers.
  20. I don't think it will happen any time soon as it's still available on Fiebing's site. Show me one saddle maker using water based dyes and I will show you a saddle maker that won't be selling too many saddles. You might get by using water based dyes on micro projects, but thats about all its good for in my opinion. Below info copied from Fiebing's site. Professional Oil Dye A new, improved version of our traditional leather dye. Professional Oil Dye is also an alcohol-based dye created specifically for natural strap leather, vegetable tanned leather and bag & case leather. Excellent coverage and superior colorfastness. Manufactured in Black, Dark Brown, Light Brown, Saddle Tan, Mahogany, Red, Royal Blue, Yellow, Green, Walnut and Chocolate. Packaged in 4 ounce, 32 ounce, Gallon, 5 Gallon pails and 55 Gallon drums.
  21. If your careful and use the proper matting, the blades will last a long time. If your not careful and use the improper matting, you will occasionly nick the blades just like you will with any knife. The sharpner does a great job if you elect to take the time to do it. Replace blades run about $3.50 each in a pack of 5. If you try it, you just might retire you head knife.[/size
  22. For straight and moderate curves, you can't beat the rotary cutter. This little tool will cut thru 8-9 OZ like hot butter.....
