OH yeah! I was bit by the bug when I started braiding! I'm still excited when hides arrive. I did the math on my new hides.....still under $12 sf, I can't remember the exact amount. I can't wait to see them. Rainy day today, so lots of braiding today. very excited. The braiding is very nice knothead. Did you use 2 different hides of the same color to get a little more color variation, it kind of looks like it. I do that sometimes, but sometimes that's just the way the hide is. Those are my favorite hides. Personally I would have cut those strings in half and did an 8 plait, but I always cut my roo pretty small. As strong and as precious roo is, it's meant to do more detailed looking work. You beveled it on the reverse side? I don't see a bevel. Very nice braiding indeed though, can't wait to see what kinds of button work you come up with.

I am now the top poster! Wake up call, get off the computer and go braid. I added the total dm, converted the total to square feet and divided that by the total price. I don't have a total for the new hides yet, I'll have it by the end of the day.

Yes, I have 5 hides coming now! I'm so wickedly spoiled! Forest green, jade green, whiskey drum stuffed, natural drum stuffed, and black drum stuffed. The house is going to smell wonderful and I probably won't leave the house for a few days. Hee hee hee...I better get to cutting the two I have here now. Oh happy days!! Oh, and I pay $13 and change per square foot before shipping. I'd never tried to figure it out before because I knew how much each hide cost. I either used it all in a bridle or made smaller pieces in which the real cost was in my time, not in how much roo, probably a little math lazy too.

I decided to call them! LOL I ordered 2 hides..couldn't help myself at that price. I ordered a natural and a black and he's sending me a sample of the tan. I just might try my hand at selling string at that price. I can use some extra Christmas money and I like to cut it. And I could try romel reins! I've always been so careful with every piece of string. He said they are larger hides too, that mean less waste over all. I keep thinking I did the math wrong, but I did it again and it seems I'm right. Of course I'll still need my wonderful supplier in Australia because I use a lot of color so I don't feel terribly bad. I'm so excited!

I tried to email hardtke and it came back.

MMMM, yummy! One of my cockatoos managed to reach one of my bridles once.

Better no where than down the toilet.

Why in the world did I think you were right here in the US? Strange...
-
I'll make something as well, or I can ship you something from my store.
-
It does appear that I pay 16.35 a square foot if my math is correct. Thanks roo, I would have never thought to figure it out. It's one of those things, you pay what it costs. I'd break down the string cost but that would be way to much trouble so I'll leave it there.
-
Does that $15 include shipping? And what colors does he have? I just paid for mine I'll have to do the math. I do adore my supplier though so there would have to be pretty good difference in price. I just noticed.... 11.35! How is that possible!

Here's the aqua I get my hides from Amazing Oz, or Amazing Industries.

I can't use that Aussie Strander! Oh boy I messed up my first hide pretty good trying to work it. I think I "lost" my strander. As you can see I often cut my strips a little wider than the strander allows anyway. That hide was very large so I think the strips are pretty wide.

Sorry about 2 posts but I had to be sure the pictures weren't to big.

We must do it similar Here are my steps

I love natural and red....And black...Oh...and forest green! OK, well I love them all. I do have an aqua I'm not particularly crazy about. It's pretty until it's washed and rolled and finished, then it's a little drab for my taste. I have forest green, jade green and a drum stuffed whiskey coming. Oh and purple...purple and red look so pretty together! Hee hee hee...probably not your thing. The SMELL is wonderful. I braid and smell all the time! I'm glad to hear I'm not to crazy. How do you cut your hides? The indent on the top two would throw me a bit because I try and cut a circle or oval first.
-
I just ordered 3, haven't received them yet though. Every time I get roo hides it's like Christmas. Congrats
-
Well roo that sounds nice and easy too! I tried copper fittings for a while and I never liked the look. 8th Sinner...you make all those rings but no scarf slides! You really should try some. Oh...you know how cool your silver would look in one of those! I know, to expensive, but it would be nice!

I want to do some flat braiding like that but I can't get the back braiding right. I gave it up for a while, nice to know there is someone that can do it. It looks very nice and I love the colors!

I know you aren't talking to me but Rawhide (I think it was Rawhide) had a great way. He wrapped a piece of leather around a the dowel and made the button on that. It's a great way, no glue, nothing extra. At one point I was really good at getting the extra piece of leather just the right size, but I haven't made any in quite a while.

I can only attach photos to your facebook. I'll attach yours to mine though.

No, I tossed it, it was to big for her and I don't want people to think I make them. It's really a wonderful idea but not for me. It's the silver that gives it a special look and I won't do those. I posted your silver ones on my facebook page. A few people really seemed to like them.

I'm hanging out with the wrong crowd because I can't sell a taco bell dog lead to save my life. LOL I even stopped making them except on commission. Oh well, they aren't particularly interesting to make anyway. I made a ring 8thSinner. It was a 5 part 9 bight with a gaucho interweave. I really didn't like it. Just to wide and made my fingers look fat. It looked good on my neighbor though.
-
Oh boy. Still a little confusing but I think I get it for the most part. The rest will come together when I have the rope in my hands. I can't wait! I love the thought of making these reins to go with my bridle! 12 plait all the way, make it nice and smoooooth!
-
Goodness I don't know if I should get black or natural!! I don't quite understand what you are trying to tell me here. Do you mean you used 12 strands, but it's not actually a 12 plait? Rather you combined some of the strands together to do the braid? Not sure, sorry. I'm trying to figure out how much I need. I'll do a little surfing around too.
