one thing I do on my toolbags to get the holes to line up for the braiding is.... I wet the leather 'ends', then use pop rivets (aluminum) to line up all the holes, the next day, after it drys I lace up the bag. It makes my Mexican Round braid go way smoother.... you might want to give it a try....

How To Build Motorcycle Leather Grips?
paws replied to billio8's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
are you looking to cover existing 'stock' grips, or something else... a little more info please, it you are covering stock it is pretty easy, measure, cut, carve and then size, once they are sized you can punch holes and lace them up, I measure first then size because the thickness of the leather will add to the overall measurement. -
Hi All, I've seen some nice toolbags, thought I'd start posting some of mine, this one hasn't been seen by the customer yet, but I really like it. Always glad to here comments, bad ones need advice also please (but I would still like to here it)

I always measure the bike I'm making the bag for, that way you get the correct length, remember also where it will attach will determine the direction of the straps. (this is something most people don't think about), If you are must making it to try out the pattern and as a sample, make the straps at least 12" long, that why they should fit just about any application.

It's been asked here, and there is another thread, but I don't think it has been answered so I'll give it a go.... Here is how I do it, no need to take the levers off. I use a 8 plait round braid (12 for 'fat' levers) 1) attach the lace to the levers where the levers attach using wax thread (don't worry it gets covered later) 2) Braid down the lever to the end, and then tie off again with the thread - now here you can either leave the ends or cut them off, personal taste here - 3) tie a turks head knot over the thread at both ends, this hides the thread and finishes it off real well. TIP: buy an a old lever on ebay and practise before you braid on the bike Hope that helps, and if you have a question (I might have left out something...) I'll try and help People like mine Paws

Hi All, Newbie here at least to braiding, I've done leatherwork on and off for years, and am now trying to add some 'charm' to my motorcycle with some custom pieces. I've looked through the posts 'quickly', man you guys/gals have a lot of information here. And hope to find enough examples to at least get started with some practise to be able to Braid (or knot for that matter) around some motorcycle levers. I'll say thanks in advance for any information that may come in the future. Rob
