  1. First of all, I want to thank everyone for the wealth of knowledge on this site. It is great to see so many people come together. I have a question about cases, cell phone cases to be exact. I have been researching this topic and am wondering about something. In the 2 piece cases I have seen (a front and back sewed together) I am wondering how to add the thickness of the phone to the front piece. Are the front and back cut the same and sewed and molded or is the front piece cut larger than the back. If the front is larger than the back how is it assembled? I know this might be a dumb question but thanks for any help.
  2. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. Do you have any suggestions on the design end of it as far as how to lay it out. I have seen 2 two different styles that I was wondering about. Do you think it would be better to have it as one piece or two. Let me explain. Should one piece of leather be used and folded over and sewed on one side or is it better to cut out the front and back and sew it on both sides. I hope this is clear, it's hard for me to put it in words. Again, thanks for the help.
  3. Here it is. I knew I should have posted it.
  4. I have been asked to make a knife sheath for a friend. It is a fixed blade and the blade is about 4 inches and the handle is also about 4 inches. I have been looking at all the knife sheath topics but still have a few questions. Does it need a gussett. I don't want the knife to cut any of the stitching. I am worried about using a snap closure because I don't want it to scratch the knife. Is this realistic? I have seen some pictures of sheaths without snaps but how can i make sure the knife will stay in the sheath. Thanks for any help.
  5. I was trying to figure out how install segma snaps but couldn't figure it out. Do I need a special tool? Thanks for any help and happy new year.
  6. Looks great! Did you hand sew that? If so, how long does it take you to sew a piece like that? What part of Ft. Worth do you live in? My parents live in Keller so I will be heading over there for Christmas.
  7. I made a dog collar for my dog. I used tan cote as a resist then used fieblings sheridan antigue paste, then dyed the letters with fieblings usmc black and then used tan cote as a top coat. The antique paste is wearing off and so is the black dye. What did I do wrong? Can I salvage this piece? Thank yall for the help.
  8. Does Tandy make a petal tool? If not, where can I get one?
  9. That is a great bit of historical information. I really get into that stuff. I have a question for skipj even if it is a stupid one. You listed the different types of floral carving, so what exactly constitutes a Texas carving. Just curious because I love all things Texas.
  10. I stained a piece that I had worked on and then put Tan Kote on. I thought that this was a top coat/finish coat but I put some water on a paper towel and stain still came off. What else should i put on it. Any suggestions, or maybe I am just doing it wrong. Thanks for the help.
  11. I am no expert, but I love it. I have been thinking of making myself one if I can find the time. I especially like the pen holder, I always lose my pens!
  12. Do yall dye and then sew or sew and then dye. I have heard both ways of doing it. When handsewing that is.

  18. Hey, I am new to leatherwork. I have done a few small things before and I just have a few questions. I want to make a pair of spur straps and was wondering how to go about coming up with a pattern. I know what I want it to look like but how can i get it down on paper with all the curves. I also want to make a split ear headstall. Any suggestions on doing this? What weight leather should i use for the headstall? Can I sew the keeper together? I have a utility knife that I use, would it be ok to use this to cut out the headstall? Would you see any problem with tracing a headstall that I have? Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it.
