I kinda cheated on this one and went out and bought a real gun, I had my eye on it anyway. -

Holster Design Question
harley45 replied to cleanview's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I agree with the above posters I think lean out is caused by slots to low in the design, I like all of mine to be mid to upper trigger guard also. This is really important on N frame revolvers as I learned the hard way once! -
Welt Construction Question
harley45 replied to harley45's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I love that davis and chapman rigs, I've been buying a lot of older 1911 holsters lately it's kinda an obsession and fun to reverse engineer them, -

Welt Construction Question
harley45 replied to harley45's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That was how I originally intended to do it but then when I studied the pics I noticed that it dod have the welts and I was trying to figure out if they were necessary or what purpose they served, good to know it can be done without -
I recently saw a picture of a holster called the Rhodesion (sp) and for some reason I'm kinda enamored with the design. From the pics it looks like it was built with a welt in the front and back of the holster. I'm thinking about trying the design and was wondering what weight leather you folks use for welts, and any other advice you could share on the purpose or theory of welts? Thanks Eric

Personal 1911 Set Up
harley45 replied to Fredo's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I can understand this post fully! -
So for the past few years before I found this forum I made all my holsters out of 7-8 oz and all was good. Then I started seeing guys on here talking about using two layers of 4-5 oz and I thought that makes sense I think I'll try. I've had great success with it on pancake style holsters and thought I'd try it on an avenger type or maybe a summer special type. I'm just wondering though before I do it since I'm folding the leather on these do you guys cut both pieces the same size or maybe leave one a little bigger than the other to prevent wrinkles? Thanks

Thanks for the great responses so far folks!! -
They have a couple different weights 5-7 and 7-9 just curious what you guys use for your holsters probably for a full size 1911? I just wanna play with some horse and this seemed like a good way to start. Thanks, Eric
