  1. I have only been working with weather since May of this year but have really jumped in with both feet. I just bought a cobra class for from Leather Machine Company. I can't say enough good things about the machine, Leather Machine Company or Cobra Steve. I've been making mostly holsters , knife sheaths and book covers. I have been starting with three back stitches and over stitch three stitches at the end as well as back stitching another three stitches. Is it necessary to do that or is this overkill. There is a tremendous amount of thread at that juncture. I've changed up a little bit and now backstitch three stitches the perimeter and end at the last stitch where I back stitch three stitches. This isn't quite as bad but it doesn't always look continuous. If I simply stitch forward and then over stitch three stitches, will that lock everything in? Thanks for your help.

  3. Ps. I bought them. They were much cheaper than I thought they would be.
  4. Cobra Steve is shipping out a new Class 4 to me on Monday. have been watching all of the video I can find. I saw a drop down guide that looks great. I have model number kr205 for the mounting bracket and kg867 for the guide, but I cannot find a vendor for it. Help!!!!!!!
  5. Just For clarification: What exactly are you calling the leading edge versus the trailing edge? I'm guessing it is the front versus the back as you are wearing the holster, but just want to make sure. What do you use for vacuum forming? Is it a fancy store-bought machine or something you can make on your own? What kind of attachment do you use on your Dremel tool for burnishing?
  6. Thanks, guys. I learned more from this post than I did from several hundred hours of YouTube videos and several books. Dwight; I printed your workflow list and I'm going to post it at my workbench. I think it will be invaluable. ragingstallion Do you think it's possible or practical to do stamping on areas that will not be stretched or worked during wet forming?
  7. What order do you complete your work in when making holsters and sheaths? It seems like I'm always undoing work that I've already done. I just completed my first holster. I had it stamped and dyed and it looked good until I wet formed it. All of the dye came off and it looked a mess. Also, some of the stamping just about disappeared where the creases were and from getting wet generally. I guess what I'm looking for is actually a list of I do this first then that then this etc. etc. etc.Etc. etc. etc. Thanks all
  8. I see that this system is available on any Cobra Machine. How much extra is it on a class 3 or class 4 machine? the website doesn't give prices or specs.
  9. I have a bit of a dilemma. I am fairly new to leatherwork. I am in my 60s and still work part-time as a government contractor. At this point, I am just a hobbyist but may want to try to sell some goods in the future. I am most interested in making knife sheets and holsters and some motorcycle accessories. I jump into everything with both feet. I've already spent several thousand dollars on a variety of tools and other necessities. I am from a law enforcement background so I have a lot of connections in that field and in the motorcycle field, so that is where my customer base would be. I have been hand stitching up to this point and I have to say the results are actually pretty good. I would like to speed things up a bit with the sewing machine. I have been longing for a Tipmann Boss. I have read every review that I can find but there doesn't seem to be a real consensus. I have also been looking at the Cowboy and Cobra electric machines. The Boss is expensive but affordable. The electric machines are crazy expensive for a hobbyist. The mistake I don't want to make is buying the Boss and being dissatisfied with it a year later and buying the electric machine. Has anyone used the Boss long-term? Have you wished that you had just taken a big bite out of the bullet and bought the electric machine?
  10. I am new to the craft and have been working on my own for the last three months. I have watched a ton of YouTube videos and read every article I could find. I would still like to find somebody that I could sit down with and watch and have him watch me. I think I would learn a whole lot faster that way. I think I am just repeating the same mistakes over and over again. I live in Pasadena which is between Annapolis and Baltimore but will travel. Contact me by PM or at russ.hewitt.jr@verizon.net.
